  2. Never send through friends and family, as that strips you of all buyer's protection. If an artist claims it to avoid the PayPal fees, it's a red flag. That said, and I'm in no way approving an artist ignoring a client and they were clearly hard to get hold of from the beginning, please avoid the RP texting you gave the artist. It's highly unprofessional to be *waving* and *poking* and s-studdering their "h-hello"s like (I presume) your character. I would certainly want to avoid that discomfort by refusing further work from you, as it's too familiar from a business standpoint. (No disrespect intended.)
  3. Do not close it. The artist can say it takes 1-6 months, but PayPal will ensure you get it through the claim unless something goes horribly wrong. It's not on you to wait, and closing the claim because the artist gives delays robs you of refund protection, permanently.
  4. Blocking is never a good sign. I hope that you haven't closed the claim, as once it's closed, it can't be reopened.
  5. It looks like you passed the 180 day limit for PayPal's chargeback. In future, never let that time run out unless you 100% trust the artist to deliver past that date.
  6. Absolutely despicable customer service and quite clearly (in my opinion) ran with the money when she rebranded. Further, artists really shouldn't be doing free art when they fall behind, either finish the work that was commissioned or refund, don't complicate things with "freebies" that only delay the commissions further.
  7. Gather all your information via screenshots. It's your best chance to convince PayPal. Since you've finished most of the work, you could take the loss and email the file of the character to their PayPal email, so that you can prove to PayPal that you upheld your end of the bargain. Ideally with words like, "Due to the communication difficulties after blocking me, I am sending over the agreed on file despite it clear that you will not be honoring the rest of my payment. This ends our transaction and I will be declining further business from you. Have a good day."
  8. If the artist has no plan to finish the commission, a refund is in order. It's as simple as that. Not providing the agreed on commissions AND keeping the money is theft. Very sorry this was such an early experience for you.
  9. As a dragon artist, I really admired their art at one point, but the general attitude they give to followers and now even clients that would pay tips (and offer to buy computer parts for them) has truly soured them as an artist for me. I do hope things can be resolved somehow.
  10. As an artist, I would hate being addressed like this, even if the client's complaint is valid. Exploding instantly like this makes people go heavily on the defensive where a civil tone could have paved the way to corrections/negotiations. That said, as an artist, it's important to accept when things can't be done due to personal skill or issues. Or to accept if a client is unhappy after being promised certain things and those things aren't done. This is why sketch WIPs are important, or in case of wing-its, being able to accept fault for missing something in the ref. Communication is always key and I find myself sometimes on the border of annoying clients with detail questions so I can be sure I'm as accurate to what they are envisioning. Sometimes things go wrong and that's why it is so important to be able to handle this on either side of the commission experience.
  11. With the image fixed, I'm not sure that the partial refund was necessary, but this is certainly an artist that wants to fix issues in a timely manner. Highly approve.
  12. While I feel the lack of feet should have been brought up to the artist during the WIP, I do agree that the finished piece clearly lacks quality from the example pieces. Seconding the comments on the PayPal fee. Amazed they haven't caught it already.
  13. This is one of many reasons I always send an invoice. I can also attach my ToS and be detailed on what is being ordered from me. First step would definitely be to inform the scammer that, due to events caused by their actions, the commission was refunded and she no longer has any rights to using or sharing the art.
  14. Probably the best way to see to it that the theft isn't directly profited from. I hope your future clients are upstanding ones. You might even set up a private base on itch.io that they officially buy after you get the basics sketched? That way, they charge back a corporation that might take the hit for you.
  15. I would start the chargeback, personally. They can't communicate at all when you ask questions. Best to was your hands of it and then if they do ship you something, you can pay them for what was done.
  16. The qualities look the same, but the style of your icon is vastly different from the other two. Really can't imagine not giving a sketch WIP, especially for traditional.
  17. I would look into whether or not they've been going to cons or getting purchases that aren't related to finishing their queue. That's a sign that they're just stalling. Technically, it really isn't your fault they spent your money before providing the product you paid for. I can understand not wanting to sink them further into problems, but give them a specific deadline of say, two or three months, to finish and ship your suit or you will be filing a chargeback on the refundable amount. Then, if they finish the suit after another month, you can pay them back.
  18. Remember that if the maker does rush the suit, that's beware worthy on its own.
  19. I say right now that, yes, they did spend your money without delivering a product. And they've violated their own contract with you when a deadline was agreed on. Deciding afterward that they wouldn't do it doesn't make previous agreements null and void. That's like buying a computer with a one year warranty and the company deciding two months later they aren't honoring it anymore and you find out at the 6 month mark when you computer suddenly dies.
  20. Same. I've had my account less than 5 years, and never had a monthly fee, so I was confused if there was some premium version I hadn't heard of that had fees. So I think we can chalk that up to the artist trying to guilt the client. And over $6.
  21. There's a lot that can change between sketch and lines. An artist that doesn't give updated WIPs shouldn't be surprised if a client asks for an edit here and there. And, honestly, looking at the sketch and finished versions, the nose IS a lot different in shape. I 100% believe if the artist's ToS states not correcting things past the sketch, they should be held accountable if they deviate from the approved shapes. Also, I'm not sure what this monthly fee is that the artist complains about?

  23. How was the refund cancelled? I would call PayPal personally about this and get it resolved. There shouldn't be any way someone can cancel a refund when a dispute closes? The artist agrees to the refund in writing and should be enough evidence to PayPal.
  24. First reg flag is when they claim they were on holiday, but active on multiple platforms. I get email messing up, but that's a long time to misplace any sort of update and seek out the client with WIPs.
  25. Threatening to inform PayPal of NSFW content. That is one of, if not the, biggest no-no for a commissioner to do. We need PayPal in order to run our livelihood as there is currently no competitors willing to fund adult businesses. This earns a rare preemptive block.
