  1. Sorry that happened to you. I'd advise to either take full upfront, 50% upfront - 50% after or payment after a sketch. Doing payment after the art is basically finished leads to many risks such as these.
  2. As an artist, I would never think of doing this, while yes, the art is basically ours, the character, which still belongs to someone else, is depicted in it. I would not feel comfortable even thinking of offering prints like these, unless the customer specifically asks for it to be done. I dunno, it rubs me the wrong way.
  3. I still have about 4 months until the Paypal window closes. I'm thinking of asking them about progress next month and set an ultimatum a month or two before the window closes. If that fails, I'll ask Paypal for help.
  4. Edit: I know it's only been about 2 Months or so, but they keep piling up work and already accepted a bunch of people on the original emergency comm post in addition to their health problems (no shame on them, they obviously can't help that). That's why I'm a bit worried.
  5. I commissioned an artist on Twitter in the beginning of April and yet havent heard back from them. I do follow them though and they are constantly posting about their health and money problems. The commission itself was an emergency commission as well and they are still taking... I guess you could call it emergency commissions since then. Their posts on Twitter said that they'll work on already taken commissions (where I fit in) from Monday to Tuesday and doing new commissions in stream from Wednesday to Friday, from what I understood. I'm just kinda worried I will not see the commission done before the paypal deadline, since they mention their health a lot. And I'm also worried that I will not see a refund either since they have money problems as well and taking even more work throughout the week. I feel bad filing a dispute anyway (if I had to in the future), since I feel really bad about them. I'm not sure what to do if the deadline does come close and I don't get the commission by then...

  7. They seem to have blacklisted you by blocking you therefore making you "unable to commission [them] in the future" as by their TOS. I wouldn't take it personal if I were you.
  8. I've given tips this way for artists inside the EU. For artists outside the EU, I prefer to use Ko-Fi, because Paypal charges me, the sender, extra for sending per Friends and Family to people who do not reside in the EU. Sending tips per Friends and Family is fine! You do not expect anything in return and it counts as a donation/gift!
  9. Artist: Slurku Where: https://twitter.com/Slurku When: April 29 - May 8 I commissioned Slurku via Twitter on the 29th of April, 2019 for a Screentoned Icon of my bear character. I paid promptly after they contacted me via Telegram and was put onto their Trello right after. I only had to wait around a week until Slurku started to work on my Icon. I was shown Sketch and Coloring WIPs, requested some tiny changes and they were really nice to fix them! The day after that, I was presented the finished product and I couldn't be happier to have the perfect new icon now! Slurku was incredible to work with, super nice and quick service. If you like her style, I'd definetly recommend Slurku to draw your character!

Honestly, some things here kinda rub me the wrong way, like the one message where they said that people asking them for updates stress them out...I can't really understand that logic to be honest, if you're taking commissions/orders, people will ask for updates if you don't give them out yourself. Then there's the fact that they didn't even know how much you paid either and had to ask you for that, and that they never showed you any TOS or material reciepts. Or the fact that they begged for the Paypal claim (I assume it's a Paypal claim that you started) to be taken down and that they vented about you on their social media. There's a lot of their behavior that I find super questionable about their business ethic, tbh.

I'd honestly advise to give out sketch edit WIPs anyway, especially if it's a species change or stuff has to be added to the base (example: hairstyles, wings, accessories, etc.) just to be on the safer side. It allows the customer to ask for changes before any serious work has been done which can save you a lot of time later and accidents like this one can be avoided easily.
  12. I agree with @theodor When I cancel, I give my clients a full refund. If my clients cancel, they get back money for work not done. I usually refund in percentage steps, e.g. Lineart finished -> 90% refund, Coloring/shading finished -> 50% refund, Art is almost finished -> 10% refund.

  14. I noticed that links in the beware descriptions aren't actually clickable links, meaning you'd have to copy and paste them into your URL bar manually to visit websites. Which can be a bit iffy when someone pastes multiple links to multiple accounts into their beware ^^; I also noticed that there's no "comments" link on the preview of bewares. Like, when you click the number of comments on previews, it would take you to the first comment left, on the bottom of the article~ Just some tiny things I noticed!
  15. Yikes. I really looked up to them, oh well. The TOS alone is very frightening and super unfair to customers with the "Kill fee", them only being able to starts after 12-17 *months* and the already mentioned "a**hole clause". Absolutely no.

  17. Update! (if anyone is interested xD) I reminded my client today again and they chose to laminate it themselves and allow me to keep the shipping costs. They're way too busy with college to deal with USPS for now.
  18. @Mortymaxwell Yeah, that was actually one of my concerns ^^;; I'll ask the customer what they prefer if they fail to pick up the badge. If they rather want to print it themselves, I refund the shipping costs. Thank you so much btw, that honestly means a lot ?

  20. @Bornes They're aware of the deadline as I have reminded them and mentioned the 21st today again! The artwork was sent per email as a digital copy, as I'm a digital artist. So they technically do have recieved the main artwork. Making the artwork a badge and shipping it is just an extra service and shipping prices are paid on top of the base price. I personally wouldn't want to refund them, as again, they technically do have the artwork as a digital copy. I'm unsue about refunding the shipping costs (in case they want to print it themselves), because as you said, the fault is on them ?

I reminded them today again and they said they'd try to get the badge. 2) They're not on vacation, though they told me they're fairly busy with college, but they can schedule a re-delivery with USPS via phone or via a filled out form on their website. Age is unknown but they did mention their dad in a voicemail. 3) Yes, a tracking number was given to the customer. I also entered the tracking number into Paypal's system under "add tracking information" on the same day I shipped the badge off. Paypal has the tracking number attached to the payment.
  23. Googling his Twitter handle, it seems you're far from alone in this. Perhaps if you can prove to PayPal that they indeed received the artworks, PayPal will let the claims end in your favor?
  24. Hello! I'm a digital artist from Germany and offer an additional service where I print the artwork out, laminate it and then ship the artwork to customers. They receive a digital copy and a physical one, so to speak. However. I'm facing an incident where a customer should have their badge delivered by USPS, yet wasn't home. I always ship with tracking and signature. USPS left a note to either let the customer pick the badge up at their office or that they could schedule a re-delivery. This note was left on the 7th of March. On the 21st, USPS will ship the badge back to me. What do I do with a customer who doesn't pick up/receives their badge? I have made them aware of this incident but nothing got resolved as of yet. I have no idea what to do...
  25. Excuse me but what? Literally ANYONE can file a charge back on PayPal, doesn't matter what country they're from. The option to charge back is not US exclusive. I've sold around 200 commissions as of now and 95% were customers from the US. I only got chargebacked once. This is some backwards logic...
