  1. It always confuses me when people request deletion despite the fact that they have to scroll past "posts are not deleted" before they can even read the content.

At any rate, I'll be closing comments since this is resolved. OP, if anything develops please contact Xai or me and we can reopen.

I imagine it would be, although someone better at PayPal law and TOS would be better suited to confirm that.

I would imagine that PayPal wouldn’t know otherwise, as she did the calculation outside of PayPal and simply invoiced $212, which as far as PayPal would know is the cost of commission without fees.

I have commissioned many many artists on FA since I have joined and to date she is the only person I have *ever* seen charge that, however. I have always made it a habit to tip the artists to cover the fees myself without prompt (often because many undercharge as well), but she was the only one to demand it upfront.

It is.  It doesn't matter if an individual posts it publicly or tell clients privately that they owe the fee.  Paypal will act on any proof provided to them.  Usually the first step is the user has the F&F option disabled.  If it's bad enough, then the account gets frozen and any funds inside of it are notoriously difficult to recover.

Can I just say, however, how awful it feels watching all these reminders get blitzed for about two weeks while you beg for an update.

I have lived that hell a few times now, and when you are months out of a commission the *last* thing I enjoy seeing is practically begging for more more commissions, with such a huge workload.

It *is* spam and it’s how she’s trapped this huge client list - myself included.

That's fine, but please keep in mind that we are not a drama site. In order to maintain our integrity, we try and keep comments on topic and will issue polite reminders to do so.

Any further comments on how she runs her gallery will have to remain unapproved. If people see an issue with it, then it's best to take it up with FA.

I am sorry to hear that you are going through this - but I am "happy" to say that you are not alone. If the moderators would like me to, I would be more than happy to go through and share my entire experience with Nika.

My own commission (also under ToastyPoodle) has been out since July 17, 2020. It sits at a measly 30%, and only because I have hounded to get it that far. I gave her the benefit of the doubt so I am beyond the time that I can dispute this with Paypal - which means I am out $212 for my YCH.

She seems to run a pattern where she vanishes for 2 months, re-appears to sucker a bunch of new people in to claiming art / donations, takes the money, and then vanishes for another 2 months - this cycle has happened a few times now.

It's a shame, because she has the talent to be a great artist, but just... isn't. I would be more than happy to provide all the evidence just as the OP has - here or in a new post. I have everything to lose because I am past a refund, but I really think people should know what they are getting in to. I am grateful for the OP's post because I had been considering starting one for her myself, but I was nervous to do so.

It may be in her TOS that there are no refunds, but it's also in her TOS that she will talk to you and have great communication.... what do you do when the artist breaks their own TOS?

If you've had your own experience leaving comments is fine, but adding to an artist's tag via your own post is better in the long run!

  5. Going through your YCHs it's obvious that some are offered shading and some are not.  Unfortunately, it's usually important to make sure to list as many details as you can, because there will always be a client who needs those details spelled out.  Sorry you had to learn the hard way.  😞

An odd thought to bring up, but since Celestina brought up that talking about negative experiences is protected by law made me think of this possibility: Could a small-claims case be brought up against Bad Coyote / CritterCanvas for the reason of 'accepting payment and not fulfilling contract' (not providing goods promised) due to the amount that was paid?

From what I see, you have: proof of payment, approximate timeline/deadline, and the lack-of-product/lack-of-attempt seems to be a lot of evidence against the said artist.

It may be a bit difficult if the artist and client are within local-distance of each other, but I do wonder if it is a possibility.

Yes but unfortunately the costs a civil case like this would be far more than the cost of the commission itself.

  7. This attempt by them to intimate their clients is laughable, but par the course for BadCoyote.

Clients speaking out about negative experiences is protected by law. Perhaps BC should actually complete his work if he doesn't want people having to resort to Artists Beware.

And whatever happened to BC "leaving the fandom"?

  8. As we stated on Twitter, we will not be boosting or hosting offsite links as many do not have proof. Additionally, the rules for commenting follow the same rules as the Submission Guidelines: Your comments must be about your own transaction.

If you see someone who has also had an issue encourage them to post here.  Why?

    • It allows chronic bewarees to actually start showing up on Google.
    • It gives people a centralized place to find issues rather than having to wade through various sites and accounts.

Sorry, but I think youre more in the wrong here. this artist is a 15 year old, for starters- which of course doesnt exempt them from receiving a beware, but i am naturally more hesitant of judgement.

i do not see how this artist ghosted you, they took awhile to reply- yes, but in these screenshots it shows that you were contacted semi regularly atleast, it doesnt help that you left them with a completed sketch concept for a month for you to turn to them and say you dont want it anymore and you want a refund, and they can just resell it themselves, that is very unfair on the artist especially since theyd already done custom work for you.

i dont take issue with you filing a dispute, especially because of the wait, but i think youre projecting your frustrations of being scammed onto this 15 year old child.

looking through their instagram, their art appears to be the same quality as the custom and i personally feel like youre being overcritical because youre upset with this kid.

i think its honestly really kind that they offered to create you more art for free, they dont owe you that, if its something you want there id be grateful.

Your comment is fine, I just want to point out that this is not a beware. A Caution post should never be taken as the same weight as a beware.

  10. A post was not approved as it contains proxy. Please remember comments must also follow the submission gudelines, and may only be about your transactions.

If anyone knows of others please encourage them to submit their own post.
