  1. https://artists-beware.livejournal.com/872392.html WHO: Apocalypse ReFurred, Thysyrael WHERE: Facebook Apocalypse ReFurred page and via messages WHAT: A pair of resin/ polymorph pastic clawed hand paws and feet paws with promise of quick turn around by April 4th. WHEN: March 18th 2015. – Commission placed. March 22nd – Fur I supplied arrived at maker’s address. March 24th – Commission paid for in full. April 3rd – Photo of hand paws WIP received, April 4th – Original deadline. April 16th – Photo received of feet paws in ductape wrap, ready for furring. ( Several different life problems occurred for the artist, such as pet passing, theft etc. throughout the months. I can try to give specific dates for these if required) 6th September – After no updates, I ask again for one or for a partial refund and what’s been made to be sent to me so I can complete myself or resell. 7th September – Refunded and items sent to me 11th September – Items recieved PROOF: ( Me in purple, her in green) Facebook messages part 1 Facebook messages part 2 Paypal receipt Message mentioning the polymorph plastic I missed Items themselves; Overall paw shape ( My ref for character, notice the paws are more lizard or simian shaped) Animal hair 1, 2, 3 Unglued edges Hand paws Claws They look like Fimo to me EXPLAIN: Back in March, I was preparing for a convention on April 4th when I found that my fursuit feet and paws where in very rough condition from general use. I asked about on the UK Furry Facebook groups for a maker or someone seller paws and a maker came forward. I looked at their stuff and while they weren’t high end makers, their paws looked fine and they offered to complete it within the admittedly tight deadline. I already had some fur left over from when I tried to make the fursuit and we agreed for a lower price ( £80) if I sent this fur over. A day before the deadline ( April 4th ) I received a phone photo of the hand paws. They looked a little rough, but I assumed it was just the camera quality. I later received a photo of ductape covered feet paws. They looks a little odd and I asked if the tape was pulling the toes apart, giving them a wider look. She assured me they were fine so I continued with the commission a little apprehensive. Then a myriad of personal and family problems for the maker reared up, from a pet passing away, to a parent being very ill and then robbery. There were also problems with the dye not adhering to the resin claws that I’d asked for. She said she would contact the maker and complain. Every so often, I’d ask for updates and get told that there was a problem and she couldn’t send photos. After the April 4th deadline, I’d hoped that the paws would be ready for Confuzzled in May. No such luck, I ended up going suitless which was kinda sad. 7 months later, I was promised an update within 2 weeks. No update came and I was fed up. I asked for a partial refund ( as some of the commission was complete) and for what was made to be sent to me. She agreed and the £5 refund along with the unattached claws and paws where sent to me. The paws arrived quickly but in very poor condition, which I’ll detail in sections; Feet Paws – They are way too wide and off model, looking more like duck feet. There is glue blobs, holes between the fur and the sole, but the worse thing is the smell. They stink badly of dog so much that it’s as if the animal has sat on the foam or fur. I reported this to the maker ( as some of my family suffer from allergies), she explained that the fur and foam was kept away from the animals and the only way they’d smell is if she’d passed it on from petting the animals. However, there is white and brown animal fur on the paws as well as general fluff. This hair cannot be from when I supplied the fur as we have no pets. Hand Paws – very roughly made, though they are incomplete, they too are smelly. They also fit ill. Claws– These are not polymorph plastic, but instead hand sculpted Fimo clay and have finger prints and dirt in the clay. I googled the plastic, which appears to be a shiney, usually white product similar to glue gun glue. In the end, I am very disappointed. I don’t think I can even sell these items without thorough repair and cleaning. She seems to be a young maker and as such, isn’t very professional yet. Edit: Update 2/10/2015 I contacted the maker a couple of days ago about the animal fur with pictures. I asked her again if the animal had been in contact with the paws and she said the fur ( which is clearly animal with colouring and tapering... plus, y know, the stink!) was faux fur from another suit she was making.
  2. Nov. 9th, 2012 at 12:44 AM annoyeddragon It should be noted that this beware is similar to one that already exists on Paint, posted by Acroth. http://artists-beware.livejournal.com/tag/artist-paint As you can see from this old journal by Paint. http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/2950583/ We're both on there (I'm ADF). The only difference is Acroth had the sense to go after a refund opportunity were as I stuck around longer, naively thinking if I was just patient and showed understanding during delays; that Paint would either do my art or refund me eventually. But here I am months on, still waiting. I stuck with her all this time and I'm afraid to say I am no better off for it 😞 I wish I didn't have to post this, but I haven't much choice given the present situation. Who: Paint, they prefer Skink but I'm used to calling them Paint. Where: http://www.furaffinity.net/user/paint/ (NSFW page content if you have an account) What: Three separate commissions agreed at different dates. I've created copies of the conversations concerning each one, censoring out e-mails and any mature details. They are in order of when they were taken on, with the first being the most late. Conversation - http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/6821/paint1q.png These were eight different nude poses of a character I called Emily for fun, which was an unusual human/lizard hybrid from a transformation story I wrote. They were coloured sketches and the price tag came to $50. Unlike the other two commissions, this one was half completed and I have received four of the eight images. But progress inexplicably stopped. Conversation - http://img849.imageshack.us/img849/4240/paint2a.png This was a character sheet for a new lizard sona I was hoping to get as an alt to my current one. It involved a clean/adult version of the same sheet. The price came to $71. No progress has been made on this commission. Conversation - http://imageshack.us/scaled/landing/94/paint3jd.png A transformation comic of a mature nature where a couple turn into anthro iguanas. Most of the details for this commission were agreed during a livestream so there is no record of those conversations, the above was just getting the details down so they had something to reference during the stream. The price came to $75. The stream ended before Paint could get around to my commission, so she told me to attend tomorrows stream where she would work on it. I did, but she was too busy doing newly paid for commissions from that stream to work on my one, so it never got done. Some may ask why I would be silly enough to take up a third commission with Paint when she already owed me two that were late... I was assured the reason they were delayed so long was because Paint worked better during a stream, that work gets done during a stream. So I trusted her when she said a commission taken on during the stream would get done, but of course it didn't... When: When I started to feel no progress had been made for too long, I started contacting Paint regarding this. A record of these conversations can be found here. http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/7392/paint4.png As you can see, the artist/customer relationship slowly disintegrated over time. While initially expressing a will to get these commissions completed, communication later collapsed. Proof: Here are the payment details for these commissions. Most of the discussion regarding these commissions are in the links included in the above section. http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/541/paypaltransactions.png Explain: I feel I have done everything I could of to resolve this matter. I kept in touch, I attended streams when I was told she could do them then, I was open for negotiation on how to move forward with them. I went above and beyond some others when it comes to showing patience and understanding with Paints regular problems, but ignoring my messages has really left the situation hopeless. The only alternative to maintain conversation would be to invade a journal or stream and hijack the discussion for this purpose, which inevitably would have led to me being made to look the bad guy... The worst part is, and probably why I've tolerated this for so long, is because I don't want Paint to dislike me 😞 I still don't, but I cannot imagine she will be happy to see I have posted this. My question to her would be "what else could I have done?" because I tried everything. I begged you to work with me to resolve this matter in the end and you responded with the silent treatment, what more could I have done? I hope she cares enough about what other people think that being posted up on Artists Beware will prompt her to want to get this matter sorted. But given she is already up here for reasons similiar to my own, I'm just not sure... Best case scenario is I'm refunded for the commissions (accounting for reductions for the completed Emily poses) and we can both move on. Maybe in time even get over this experience and get back on good terms again? But that's just me being hopeful. Refunds $171/ $171 Refunds are to be made every Friday over six weeks, so $28.50 per payment. 17/11/12 - $28.50 received 24/11/12 - $28.50 received 30/11/12 - No payment was receieved this Friday. 03/12/12 - Paint had forgotten and apologised, will be getting payment later. 04/12/12 - $28.50 received 07/12/12 - $28.50 received 15/12/12 - $28.50 received 24/12/12 - $28.50 received
  3. Disclaimer: the screenshots I have are the best I can get from discord chats where I talked with others about the commission months ago. Commissioner blocked me (see attachment 1) immediately after my saying I wasn't content with my commission compared to others they've done, thus I cannot get any other screenshots than those I have here. -- Proper: Our first contact about the commission was right after they posted they were open for commissions and (of I remember right) in need of help financially. I had talked with them previously, as they made a nice little $10 pinup of my lizard boy (Attachment 2), and I even made them a little art as thanks in return. They seemed nice, so why not help them out and see what they can do for a full piece? April 7th, I paid the $140 (attachment 3) for a full shaded piece with a background and showed them all my references for my Y/veltal and U/mbreon characters performing missionary position and its supposed to be romantic. I will note that shaded characters is worth more than background (attachment 4), and the background ended up being the subject in the end piece. After the start of our commission, they seemed to go pretty fast! They got me the first sketch within 3 days, which came in the form of just a fully lined "background". (attachment 5) Took me off-guard because that never happens, getting the background (lined) before even seeing a sketch of any sort, especially the subjects. Thought maybe the subjects would go on the couch or floor or something (since I didn't specify where, which was in retrospect may have been my first mistake, and they wouldn't tell me what they were about to do). I figured I would wait it out and see what they do. Waited quite a while, a month went by, another month...I was beginning to wonder, so I asked if there was any progress. Each time I asked, they simply answered "no progress". Meanwhile on Twitter I had noticed them saying they were too depressed to work or some such thing, then it turned to them being in art school all of a sudden. And whenever they were in the mood, they'd spit out about 5 pinup commissions at a given time. By the time I even got an update (which I will touch on in a moment), there had to have been about 30 to 40 commissions finished by them. That is not an exaggeration. I confronted them about it and after a few times of trying, they did indeed confirm that they took many MANY commissions at once, and it's been piling up ever since. And yet they are still asking for commissions and taking over a year to finish what I assume to be most of them. Moving on, the first update I got since the lined background was on February 11th, 2020 (attachment 6) I voiced my concern that the subjects weren't in the foreground and were instead in the background (attachment 7) while also trying to be nice because they were supposedly my friend, and the fact they'd been going through a lot (allegedly). Their only response was "this is what it looks like zoomed in" (attachment 8 ) which is a big yikes because, not only was it low res if you did zoom in, but it's also the fact it's not the focus, is a big no-no. I voiced my concerns again, and she left me on read. February 13th, another update. They only showed that they had colored and shaded the "background" which I thought looked pretty dang good, all things considered. (attachment 9) But no sign of whether Chio decided to move the characters anywhere else. Figured I would wait and see. Fast forward to APRIL 15TH with no prior WIPs, the characters were lined and flat colored already. I was so done and tired at this point and just wanted it done that I just couldn't bear to say anything. Other than just shade them, because obviously there was nothing I could do at this point. They had already got it set in stone without my permission. (attachment 10) Their reaction to "shading" the characters? (like I had bloody paid for) They darken the room. (attachment 11) So I figure, well, if you're going to do that, maybe can shade it nice with some glow effects from the U/mbreon that bounce off the Y/veltal and the walls and all? No. All that happens is that they add a glow around the markings. (attachment 12) Nothing spectacular. I paid full price for this. And the BACKGROUND is the FOREGROUND, and the characters aren't even shaded. Full piece: (attachment 13) Friend asking if full piece is a wip: (attachment 14) Proof of talking with my friends about this even early on when I found out it was in the background: (attachment 15) Other examples of art released at the same time that is better: (attachment 16) I'm sorry, but that is a failure to do what you have to do. Failure to communicate and make sure. Failure to get things done. Failure on the level of taking on way too many commissions and getting none done for an eternity. And then screwing up a full piece, which should be considered having /more/ care and effort put into it than your average pinup. Tl;dr -Takes too many commissions, and thus takes over a year to do your art -Not good at communication on commissions to make sure its what the commissioner wants -Overly sensitive if you say anything negative at all There were no WIPs before this.

She is great at keeping me updated on the status of the artwork, very polite, and does an overall great job handling commissions in general. Mary Mouse 2. http://www.furaffinity.net/user/marymouse (among other places) 3. Midwest FurFest 2006 4. I commissioned a conbadge from her. She had it finished and I was able to catch up with her to pay and collect it the next day. The artwork was awesome and I continue to use that image as one of my avatars to this day. The only disappointment was that the hole punch for the badge holder was through part of the headfur. Later I scanned the badge and sent her a courtesy copy (as I try to do with all badges and artwork I commission, though it sometimes it takes me a while to get access to a scanner). She sent it back to me less than a day later, with the hole punch repaired in the virtual copy, and with the colors brightened as well. You can't tell it was there! poizenkat Oct. 2nd, 2011 10:19 am (local) Oh yes! I rarely commission other artists, because usually when I want something panned out on a canvas, I do it myself. However, I'm too busy with commissions atm to really produce something nice for myself. So I asked PurpleKecleon to do a Pokemon-themed picture for me. Waited for about a month, but the wait was worth it (I think she had a fairly large list anyway). Anywho, the picture she made for me was just eye-candy in all aspects. I actually found myself drawn towards the fire and the water more in the image then the characters themselves. Expensive commission, but worth every penny. I'm also happy to say that the subsequent pieces I've commissioned from her have been an equally delightful experience. The headshot is lovely as well; it has a kind of wistful quality to it, and there is a lovely liquidness to hir eyes in this. The solo pic of Sh'sthress is a prime example of where she applied her experience as an artist to achieve the feeling I wanted for a piece; she took the rather generic pose idea I had and turned it into something much, much more than I had envisioned. I'm also happy to say that the subsequent pieces I've commissioned from her have been an equally delightful experience. The second piece is a prime example of where she applied her experience as an artist to achieve the feeling I wanted for a piece; she took the rather generic pose idea I had and turned it into something much, much more than I had envisoned.
