About Me

  1. Aug. 16th, 2011 at 2:27 PM undertow26 I'm not sure if I want to call this a beware. I feel bad putting her here because the transaction started out really awesome, but it declined from there. WHO: Neemeister neemeister.deviantart.com WHERE: Deviantart WHAT: $85 two character commission. WHEN: Beginning of May/June 2010 until now. PROOF: The exchange. She asked me about some details about the story and my characters, so my replies are omitted for personal reasons. [Censored by mod for lack of censoring. Paypal screencap is valid] EXPLAIN: I paid for a commission in June 2010 of two of my characters. In the beginning, the transaction went smoothly, but she required payment upfront. This was fine with me, I've done it before with good results. Since she was going through a tough situation I made the mistake of sending the full 85 USD to her account instead of half/half, which she said would be alright. Everything was fine, I was really excited about this commission. Almost three months go by and I don't get any progress. I understand that she had other commissions before mine so I wasn't really worried at this point. I sent her a message inquiring the status. Since she wasn't on dA very often. the exchange spanned from Aug 30th to Oct 1st. I omitted some unnecessary stuff, hope that's ok. The changes requested was for one of the characters who I redesigned. She went silent for a while, and closed her commissions in December. I was going to ask her about the commission again, but saw her reply to someone else's inquiry on her commission journal saying she intended to get to them. Reassured, I forgot about the commission. Until April/May of this year. I was a bit frustrated at this point. She stopped uploading to her dA gallery. It wasn't the time that got to me, it was the lack of communication. I sent a reply on her dA journal. And it was hidden. By now I'm getting bad vibes. I can understand hiding the comment but she didn't even reply. Irritated, I sent a note to another of her customers. I took out her screen name for privacy reasons. But it looks like I'm not the only one who hasn't received art from this artist. [Removed by mods for proxy] Doing a search on her screen name, I found some accounts on different websites, one that was last visited in July of this year. So I don't think she's out of internet. I sent her another note asking for the status of the commission and it sits unread in my inbox. I'm rather upset that I had to come here in the first place because this started off so promising. I don't want to assume the worst, but it appears that she's been recently active on other sites which isn't a good sign. I'm thinking of issuing a chargeback since I paid with a credit card, but I think too much time has allotted since the initial transaction. I will happily mark this as resolved if she gets in contact with me again, but right now it seems unlikely that I'll ever get the art. =/
  2. Aug. 2nd, 2011 at 8:27 PM korsetkoat WHO: http://kura-ou.deviantart.com/ http://suzaku-ou.livejournal.com/ WHERE: Initiated contact on teenycom post, did business over dA notes. WHAT: I ordered a lineart of a new character that had never been drawn before. We agreed on the price of 15$. WHEN: Ordered the lineart October 24th, 2010. EXPLAIN: Ordered the commission October 24th 2010, paid on the 25th. Checked up on the status of my commission on November 15, 2010. Checked up on the status for the second time on December 2nd, 2010, received a WIP. I asked for changes to be made. Checked up on the status of my commission for a third time on December 29th, 2010, received a second WIP. There were a lot of things that I asked for at the very beginning that were ignored/forgotten, and for some reason the slot for the tail that was in the sketch disappeared in the second WIP, so I asked for that to be put back in. I never got a reply to this note. Checked up on the status of my commission a fourth time on January 29th, 2011. I noticed that they made a teenycom post asking for more commissions after telling me their scanner wasn't working, so I hoped they had it fixed and we could move on with my commission. This is also left unanswered. Finally, the note above is answered on April 15th, 2011. The commission still isn't finished and I felt very snubbed being ignored while they kept trying to sell commissions. I asked for a refund. We had a back and forth about me asking for a refund. Continuation of above. Tired of arguing and tired of them, I conceded and agreed to let them finish my commission. Checked up on the status of my commission a fifth time on August 1st, 2011. Currently unread and unanswered. I'm just irritated that it's taking 9 months to get my commission, especially when it looked almost finished in the second WIP. I'm obviously not going to get my art or my money, but I want to post a beware, and ask for some advice. EDIT 1: Here's the photobucket album that includes to two WIPs. EDIT 2: After posting this entry, the artist has contacted me.
  3. Aug. 2nd, 2011 at 5:13 PM greenflavordink EDIT: Issue resolved. Thank you everyone for the advice, my friend FINALLY heard back from Abby and my refund is currently being cleared through paypal. First off, apologies if this formats incorrectly, for some odd reason LJ's posting looks all weird and it's been years since I actually made a post. ---- For my friend’s birthday (March 3’rd) I told her I would pay for a $30 commission from an artist of her choice. I’ve never really commissioned anyone before, so I just stepped back and let my friend work out all of the details and I forked up the cash when prompted. She has been waiting close to 6 months and no sign of the sketches, and on top of that the artist seems to be avoiding any and all attempts at communication. My friend was the one who did most of the communicating (but since I’m the one who actually paid for the commission and am out the money I decided to be the one to post here), and they used to keep in contact through various websites, so I do apologize if it gets jumpy. WHO: tumblr: neversayneverland y!g: blackcoffee dA: pukio LJ: prosodi My friend referred to her as Abby, so for the sake of simplicity that’s what I shall do. WHERE: http://neversayneverland.tumblr.com/ http://yaoi.y-gallery.net/user/blackcoffee/ http://prosodi.livejournal.com/ y!g is apparently where she does most of her business. WHAT: Three coloured digital sketches. WHEN: March 3’rd 2011- My friend’s birthday. I told her I would pay for a $30 commission of any artist she wanted. March 5’th 2011- My friend communicated with the artist, and they accepted the commission. I sent out the money to the artist via paypal. I’d asked that they let me know when/if the money went through, since I’m always worried I’ll email it to the wrong person or paypal just won’t send it over properly. A few weeks had gone by and I never heard from Abby about the money, so I asked my friend if all was well. My friend did not even know if Abby received the payment and shot her a message on tumblr. April 4’th- Abby responded saying that yes she did get the money and that she would work on my friend’s commissions that weekend. May 4’th- Once again my friend was able to get a hold of Abby and asked how things were going. They had stated that school was practically slaying them, but that they would be able to work on them that Saturday. May 14’th- My friend sent an AIM message to Abby saying that Saturday had come and gone. The artist logged out an hour later without saying a word to her. May 29’th- My friend emailed her and this was the first time she mentioned a refund. No response. June- More time passed. My friend tried to get in touch with Abby a few times on a few different websites. She noticed that Abby would post things occasionally on tumblr/lj/chats. Eventually my friend broke down and asked the artist’s roommate if Abby was alright and to pass a message along saying that she’d been trying to get in touch with Abby for awhile now. The roommate said she would tell Abby. July 3’rd- When that last live journal message went unanswered I wrote up an email and sent it to the only form of communication I had with the artist, the email they gave me to send their payment to. I stated that if they did not email me back from them by July 15’th 2011 I would write up a post for artist_beware. July 15’th- I did not receive a response. I got bogged down with work and was unable to log into AIM (however I check my email religiously) and double check to see if my friend heard from her, I decided to hold off on posting to artist_beware to ensure that no mistakes were made. July 30’th- I finally logged back into AIM and started collecting material for this post. My friend wanted to try one last time to get a hold of Abby, with a new deadline of Monday August 1’st, 2011. August 2- I finally sent in this report to artist_beware. PROOF: Artist accepted commission. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v156/kinabaki/Commission%20Issues%20for%20artist_beware/commissionproof1.jpg Artist said they received payment. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v156/kinabaki/Commission%20Issues%20for%20artist_beware/commissionproof2.jpg Paypal statement showing money had been sent/received. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v156/kinabaki/Commission%20Issues%20for%20artist_beware/commissionproof3.jpg Artist’s missed deadline. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v156/kinabaki/Commission%20Issues%20for%20artist_beware/commissionproof4.jpg Artist ignores my friend/their client. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v156/kinabaki/Commission%20Issues%20for%20artist_beware/commissionproof5.jpg Requesting refund. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v156/kinabaki/Commission%20Issues%20for%20artist_beware/commissionproof6.jpg Trying other methods of getting a hold of her. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v156/kinabaki/Commission%20Issues%20for%20artist_beware/commissionproof7.jpg Asking roommate to let the artist know she is missed. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v156/kinabaki/Commission%20Issues%20for%20artist_beware/commissionproof8.jpg Formal request of a refund from the person who actually sent the money. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v156/kinabaki/Commission%20Issues%20for%20artist_beware/commissionproof9.jpg Final warning before posting here. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v156/kinabaki/Commission%20Issues%20for%20artist_beware/commissionproof10.jpg Here is a lj post made by my friend, pretty much saying her thoughts on the matter. It was originally private but I asked that she make it public for the sake of this post. http://robotlizards.livejournal.com/120661.html And here is the artist’s lj, showing that she’s spent time online since she’d started ignoring my friend. http://prosodi.livejournal.com/ EXPLAIN: I’m not trying to be a villain here. I realize that when you play the game of life that stuff comes up, especially when you’re in school. I’m in art school myself and I know how sometimes you’ve got to put outside projects aside so that you can get your pressing assignments done. However, I feel that ignoring emails, pms, tells, and all other what have you’s for as long as she has is just rude. This is where my discontent mainly lays. If anyone has any suggestions of how to handle situations like this, I’d love to hear it.

Commissioned ~July 15th, received art July 20th 4. http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6160286 I commissioned brindledcashew for a long overdue (i've had the character for years!) ref sheet of my personal character Jello. I noted her about a quote, saying I was willing to pay above what her price list said for all the details I wanted. She totally went the extra mile and didn't charge must more than the list price. She worked very quickly and the finished product was absolutely perfect! lilclaudy Aug. 1st, 2011 11:31 pm (local) 1. Veetanitu 2. http://www.furaffinity.net/user/veetanitu/ 3. Commissioned ~July something, received July 15th. 4. http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6127310 I commissioned Veetanitu a bit before she was publicly open for commissions. She showed me the sketch during the process to make sure everything was well done. She was very professional in our conversations, fast but with good quality in the end. I love the finished job, she did it exactly as I wanted it to be done. glacidea Aug. 2nd, 2011 12:05 am (local) 1. Reilaa 2. http://reilaa.livejournal.com/ 3. I've commissioned them four times, but the most recent was in...July? 4. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v161/wtshu/commissions/6_2.jpg I bought a Heather Mason charm from them. I've bought from them before, but I am just so impressed with the quality. I mean the personality shows through! I feel like it could get up and walk. I've commissioned things before, but never felt the personality shine like with this one. Just amazing ❤️ alex_dachshund Aug. 2nd, 2011 12:06 am (local) LusoPakak 1. I requested my character be draw sitting in a bowl of mashed potatoes and gravy since it was a cute idea and Luso happily agreed and drew it the next day! He was super fast and nice to talk to! He does super cheap commissions often so his prices are really affordable! Finished commish~ http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6217547/ latiro Aug. 2nd, 2011 12:11 am (local) Falvie 1. I commissioned Mary for a custom Certified! species tag on July 15th. I was so excited to commission her for this. I was wanting one so badly and I was so happy to be her first Certified dachshund for her custom batches. :3 I told her I wanted one badly and if she would be willing to wait if I saved up the funds for the tag. She was very understanding and even let me buy it for $20 instead of $25 since I had inquired to her about one before she even started selling custom tags publicly so I was super grateful for that. She finished it in no time, sent me the badge file, a high res file of my character only, and an icon file. That was so freaking nice of her to do that! ❤️ Not done. She asked for my mailing address and I gave it to her and she shipped out my tag the next day. Once I got it in the mail, I was surprised to see that not only was there a tag, but ANOTHER COPY as well, and they both were laminated and had clips! AND, and there is another and, she included the original paper sketch as well! I was so speechless and happy that I got so many nice things from her. That was a great deal. She is probably one of the best artists I have ever done business with to be honest. She was kind, polite, professional, and included so many great things for only $20! She e-mailed me with sketches and photos of commission progress every step of the way, was very open to any suggestions I made, and went out of her way to make sure I was informed and pleased with the commission. She likes to work on a bunch of commissions at once, but is steadily finishing some while she starts others, so there is always a sense of process and progress. And I was very delighted with the completed results. Exceptional packaging for the shipping from Cananda to the US, and her pricing in my opinion is more than fair given the amount of materials and time she puts into each piece. Huskie666 offered a deal in which one person would buy an item from MissMonster's online store for her in exchange for a breed badge. I had been wanting one of these for a while, so I pounced on it. I bought the item and had it shipped directly to her. Before the item even got to her, she was done with my art. Not only that, but she is by far one of the best artists I have ever had the pleasure of working with. She queried me for details about my character that NO artist had ever asked about. She researched my species and made sure each and every line and marking was accounted for before starting the work. Then, less than a week later, she was done. Everything was perfect. A couple of days later, she mailed the item to me. It came in perfect condition, and I can't stop looking at it. Huskie666 provides top-quality products quickly and with a level of customer service I didn't realize was possible, much less executable by someone who clearly does a LOT of commissions. Approximate time period of when you did business with them: I just paid the last payment on a needfelt of my fursona. While I have not received it in person yet, I want to point out how amazing she is. 4. Details: I asked her last month about a commission, I paid half up front with a promise of the other half the next month. I did not expect her to begin working until I was paid in full but she told me she would have it done by the time I had the second payment sent. Man was she right. I got to be her first commissioner for her needlefelt work and I hope other people will commission her in the future because she was amazing to work with. She showed me so many progress shots and really kept me informed and updated on the progress of my item. She is very kind and let me know anytime she showed me a photo that I could have her fix/change things. She really turned my idea into something awesome. Of course you can see it here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6135848 Check out her galley, she has a SUPER ADORABLE baby Grpyh for sale that I really would like to see go out. -- She did just this past week give birth to a baby boy so her replies may be a bit slow if you want to contact her about a commission. This is also the reason I am posting a positive review before the item is sent to me. I told her not to send it until she recovers, I trust her 100% to send the item out when she does. I've known her online for years. marus_puppy Aug. 2nd, 2011 11:54 am (local) Unyko 1. Unyko 2. http://www.furaffinity.net/user/unyko/ 3. Late May/Early June (I forgot to post about her last month, but I will now!!) 4. I took part in her Finish This Sketch! commissions where she had a sketched out pose and you gave your character details to put in it. I thought it was a really neat idea and so I thought "why not?" She finished it within a day, essentially, and she was so sweet even though we both had a goof on clothes colors. XD I would definitely buy another from her! First things first, this was a request/gift as she's a good friend of mine. xD This is the finished piece, my main fursona 'Silverfox': http://orangewolfennetwork.deviantart.com/art/Buri-Cat-212202607 I watched her draw the entire thing over Sketcher on AG, it only took about an hour or two since it was just a lightly shaded color image with no background. If I had money to give her for true commissions I would (I actually got her a gift over the weekend as a thanks, and we doodle each others' fursonas all the time). She's pretty fast with her art and does an excellent job; she's extremely pleasant to work with and tends to be casual with communication but still keeps it professional. She's also recently started taking more furry commissions through FA but I'm not sure if she'd want me to post the account publicly (she wants to keep her DA and FA accounts separate for personal reasons) so I'd be more than happy to link it to anyone who's interested via PM. She'll draw just about anything, I think there's only a couple things that are off limits. lilclaudy Aug. 2nd, 2011 02:29 pm (local) 1. 5. Edit: Got a DA account, sent her a note and gave her two page shouts... she ignored me. I can see she's responded to other people, and to one of them she said she wishes the trolls would shut up. >_< THIS IS A CONTINUATION OF: http://artists-beware.livejournal.com/390145.html#cutid1 WHO: Eclypse of FA / Leathurkatt on DA WHERE: http://leathurkatt.deviantart.com/ http://www.furaffinity.net/user/eclypse/ WHAT: A Celtic pawprint badge costing $15 and paid for with cash and in person. I had the understanding that it was traditional, but I don't have proof of that. WHEN: I paid for it in November of 2009. The last I heard from her until this summer was in September of 2010, saying she would finish the badge and also try to send me at least $10. Then, on June 23rd, 2011, she sent me the... "finished product" in an FA note. EXPLAIN: This started out as a situation involving an artist who was ridiculously flaky and bad at communication and never showed me any proof that she'd worked on my art. You can read about this part in the previous A_B entry about her. I had pretty much given up on her. Then she sent me the finished product in June 2011. It looked NOTHING like what I'd asked for. I wanted a paw with the colors magenta, purple, and blue and some Celtic hearts worked into the design. I also asked for a name and paid for a solid-color background. But I was just so sick of dealing with her that I didn't bother responding at all. A few weeks later, I looked at the image again and got suspicious. It appeared to be a recolor of another badge in her gallery, and the file name of mine had "cougar" in it. I looked at her commission queue and saw that another person had commissioned her for a cougar paw. I contacted this person, and it turns out the artist sent both of us the exact same image, which had been drawn for the other person's trade a year and a half ago. The image in Eclypse's gallery is a recolor of the paw she drew for the trade, not the other way around. I should have realized right away she was a liar. When she sent me the completed image, she claimed that she finished the artwork, then lost it, and thought she'd have to start over again. The file she "lost" had been created in January of 2010. Well, in September of 2010, she claimed that she had the lines done and just needed to finish it. The person who traded with Eclypse has been in contact with Eclypse on DA. I don't have the details of their conversation, but I know Eclypse has been extremely immature and rude. Eclypse claimed that she sent me the wrong image, then said what she did was completely acceptable, then blocked the person. I will let said person know about this A_B post, in case she wants to add anything to it. I myself have not been in touch with Eclypse. I sent her a note on FA saying, "Over a year and a half since I commissioned you, and still all I get is the same exact image you made for someone else. Wow." She has not read it. If she doesn't respond here, I'll have to resort to getting a DA account, because she is obviously active there. I have no interest in her art after this mess and plan to demand a refund. I don't want to get a DA account just to chase after her but that seems to be my option. PROOF: In this gallery I have screenshots of the paw she sent me, the traced paw from her gallery, key parts of our conversation, her price list, and her queue. http://pics.livejournal.com/paula_mino/gallery/00008qs8 I hope this is an okay way to share the images.
  6. Jul. 31st, 2011 at 9:00 PM nightfell WHO: Baroo/Doctori-Lightning WHERE: http://www.furaffinity.net/user/doctori-lightning/ http://myfur.net/profile/Baroo PROOF: http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r279/nightfell/Art Micellaneous/Baroo_ABpost.jpg?t=1312159399 http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r279/nightfell/Art Micellaneous/BarooFA_ABpost.jpg?t=1312159437 EXPLAIN: After putting down non-refundable deposit on a fursuit head commission, Baroo can't decide if he wants to proceed with the order or not. He has cancelled and un-cancelled with me multiple times during this entire transaction and finally sent me a note saying I was " not being slightest bit understanding about this. If you are going to make me wait almost a year for a fursuit head then at least lower the final price or purchase materials to show you are serious about providing your client with the most satisfying service as soon as you are able to." I'm honestly baffled and very disappointed that this had to happen. I've done hundreds of art commissions and over 10 suit commissions never had anyone lash out so negatively. The MyFur message and FA note screen caps pretty much explain the entire situation, but it gets a little messy/hard to read since there are a lot of one-liners. May12- I was first contacted by Baroo on MyFur for a fursuit head commission. I provide a quote after being given a reference sheet May 26- I receive a 20% deposit of $90 via PayPal and confirm that he has been scheduled for October 2011 completion in time for Halloween. July11-Baroo contacts me that he might have another head commission opportunity for a cheaper price and asks if the deposit is refundable. I tell him unfortunately not but to let me know of his final decision before the end of the week so I can reschedule my Fall 2011 work queue if needed. July 13- Baroo officially backs out of the commission and asks for a refund, despite the fact I had already informed him that the deposit was non-refundable. However I told him I was willing to work out an art/fursuit part exchange that totaled $90. He expresses interest and asks for a list of prices which I give him a link for. I take him off the work queue and schedule in another commissioner who wanted fursuit parts from me. July 14- Baroo changes his mind and decides to get the head commission but wants to pay “ just pay very VERY slowly”. I tell him no problem, I can reschedule him for January 2012 which works well for his budget and since I only deliver completed suits when they have been paid in full. July 14- Same day, Baroo sends me a My Fur message asking how much I charged for handpaws and for illustration art combos. I’m rather confused at this point since he cancelled with me, wanted the commission again, and now wants to go through with the trade/exchange? I roll with it and tell him to choose what he wants and I’ll give him confirm the price. July 25- Baroo sends me a FA note saying he wants the fursuit head commission. I tell him fine, but I have to rescind the exception I made regarding the art/fursuit for deposit trade if he decides to cancel with me again. July 27- Baroo contacts me regarding a conbadge commission. This is somewhat not relevant to the A_B post, since the transaction took place with no problem and the art was delivered. July 30- Baroo asks if the commission can be done earlier if he pays me more money. I remind him that Oct is already taken and if his financial situation hasn’t changed, I didn’t suggest changing the Jan 2012 deadline. July 31- I get this note. I recap the situation and inform him to reconsider what his note means and request for him to be patient. He sends me this response and an hour later he says he sends another note saying he still wants the fursuit head. In my reply, I tell him that I did not want to do business with him and will be refunding his $90 deposit and posting on A_B. Fellow artists, please be careful when dealing with this individual.
  7. Jul. 9th, 2011 at 4:27 PM vibris_sae I was told last time that it was time to make an official beware post, but the artist in question contacted me in the comments, apologized, and said the art would be done at the end of June. I think it's time, though, since it's been nine months of excuses and being ignored, and I really don't want anyone else taken in for more money than I spent. :T I commissioned Rabid Sept. 15, 2010 for three digital busts to be finished by Halloween at $15. After Halloween passed with no sign of them I poked her, and was told since I wasn't first in the queue she didn't get to mine. I said fine, just finish them whenever. I waited until Jan. 17 of '11 to ask her again. She was nice about it, saying I didn't deserve to wait so long, she'd get them done. By this time the person I'd commissioned this for were no longer together, so I made a change and waited until mid-February, when I decided I'd ask what was up. She claimed she just forgot to do them, so I asked for a refund. I made sure to be extremely polite throughout this whole ordeal. She said she would as soon as she opened commissions again - which she did shortly afterward. After I threatened a Paypal dispute (I had no idea at this point of the time limit :P) she begged me not to, since she was using her grandma's PP. This back and forth went on for awhile until she stopped responding altogether. When I posted here to see if anyone had heard from her (and several had) she responded with more apologies and a promise to do the art - not to refund me as I'd asked and as she'd promised. Also in the comments section she admitted having traced over a photo for at least one submission. I have plenty of screencaps once again, if anyone needs proof. Maybe I was bothering her too much over $15 but it's still stealing. I've been contacted by at least one other person who was wondering if she'd done the art I'd commissioned, which I thought was kind of bad form - but it's relevant that other people are being screwed over too. At this point I don't expect to see either a refund or the art, and I'm giving up trying to pursue it. It seems like she'd rather placate people or ignore them rather than fulfill her obligations. ? (It reads from bottom to top when it comes to the back and forth, in case it looks a bit confusing to read.) Note: Some of the conversations via discord are NSFW. 29/8/2017 I was first approached by Xhybora on the 29th of October where they expressed interest in doing an animation for me. [1] I of course responded, not having had many people actually express interest in me and my OC's so much they actually come to me. I try to keep it buisiness like but friendly at the same time. [2] 30/8/2017 The next day he replies telling me how much the base price normally is. [3] I respond to them, telling them where it's easier to talk to me and how to keep in contact with me as well as telling them which characters would be good for the animation they had in mind. [4] They then ask for my Discord. [5] I give them said Discord. [6] Through Discord we discuss the idea. [7] [8] [9] [10] [11] 11/12/2017 He messages me to check up on if I'm still on board with the commission and when I will be able to pay. [12] I suggest a payment plan since my PC had kicked the bucket and I had to spend any money I'd been saving on a laptop. He also reiiterates the idea he had in mind as well as which OC he wanted to use, which was my Fursona. [13] He tells me how much it will cost and what it will come with. I also express interest that if the animation turns out well I'll return for more. I think you can tell how that went. [14] I work out roughly about how much I can pay for and when I'd be able to. As I always like to give explanations on how/when I get the money and when it'll be in Paypal. As being transparent with the artist and explaining everything to them is something that I find they like. [15] We continue talking about the commission and not much else. [16] 28/12/2017 - 29/12/2017 He messages me again to make sure I'm still interested. [17] 30/12/2017 I pay the first payment. 30/100 USD. [18] The Invoice. [19] Him and I discuss when I'll be able to pay it all off/make another payment. [20] 12/1/2018 He asks for the rest of the commission payment, which I pay in full. [21] The Second Invoice. [22] 25/5/2018 - 23/12/2018 I ask how the commission is doing. To which he says he'll get me a wip soon almost a week later. I wait a few months, ask for the update he said he'd give me months prior. I wait 12 days before giving up waiting any longer. [23] I make a payment request through PayPal since I don't know what else to do. [24] Overall I kinda just feel crappy. I got a bad feeling once or twice around the time I was paying him. But I didn't listen to it because I always feel bad saying no and/or making people upset. I was just too naive and gullible. I am not sure if it'll get solved. If it does that's a plus. But I'd like this to be here as a warning. Do not commission someone if you get any sliver of a bad feeling. And please, be wary of people that come to you for a commission.

Her Facebook page never updated and I had no other ways of contacting her. So, I sent a dispute into PayPal in December for both of my payments. She then responded to them fairly quickly, apologizing for her lack of communication. She then offered to give a partial refund, promised to improve her communication, and promised some extra goodies when I got the suit (Unfortunately, I do not have any screenshots of our conversation through PayPal, though I have tried to get them recently). I accepted and she sent a refund [4]. She also recommended I use her email, which she gave me, in order to contact her more efficiently. Unfortunately, I was naïve and dropped both cases, saying they were resolved (because at the time I thought they were). She sent one last set of WIP photos within a week, then disappeared again afterwards [5]. To this day, I’ve contacted her about once a month to try and get her back. I have contacted her through every form of media I could find, including FA and DA. I have threatened, though not followed through with demanding a refund and taking legal action. They also changed their usernames various times throughout the course of this interaction, so screenshots may not match up exactly with what I've written. ( Read more... ) July 15 - I commissioned the user hitchedboy on the petsite Flight Rising for a 2-character digital painting, which was paid for using site currency in the form of items. [1] Payment was sent using Flight Rising's 2-way trade system. Weeks passed without word, and their FR profile indicated that they hadn't logged in to FR at all since a few days after I last heard from them. With this avenue of communication closed, I started seeking an alternate way to contact them, and found their Instagram account (which was also under the username hitchedboy at the time. The link on their profile led to a DeviantArt name of jaoqy.) August 27th - I messaged hitchedboy on Instagram to inquire about a turnaround time for my commission. They said they had lost their FR login info but were still willing to do the art for me. They informed me that their preferred method of contact was Discord. [2] August 28th - Our correspondence moved to Discord. I provided them with the commission info again since they stated they lost access to their FR account. I was told that I could check in with them "as much as I wanted" and that my art would be finished in "most likely only a week." [3] September 5th - A week later, I asked to see a sketch. hitchedboy said they weren't at their computer and would send it to me in 2-3 hours. I gave them an extra 4 hours before poking them again. They told me to message them again to remind them in 5 hours; I did so and received no response at all. (Time discrepancy in their message is due to hitchedboy being in the GMT+10 timezone and myself in GMT-5.) Though I was irritated at being brushed off, I decided to give them some time. [4] September 22nd - Life got in the way and I wasn't able to touch base with hitchedboy before this date. I told them the reason for my delay; they responded with a situation curiously similar to mine, and informed me they had completed the base colors on the art. I had not seen so much as a sketch from hitchedboy at this point, despite being promised one several times over. I felt uneasy and asked them to show me the art at its current stage for approval before progressing - again, my message was ignored. [5] September 29th - I logged into Discord, saw that hitchedboy was online, and shot them a message. They immediately switched their status to "offline." (I don't have a screenshot of this, sadly.) In response to this action, I asked them to just let me know if they no longer wanted to do the commission, as I needed it by a certain date and this would give me enough time to find a replacement artist. They assured me that they still fully intended to finish the art, citing extreme forgetfulness as an excuse for blowing me off in the past. They once again set a bizarrely unrealistic time frame - this time just 10 minutes - in which I should expect to see the art. At this point, I was severely doubting that any work had been completed at all, and sent a bit of a lengthy message expressing my frustration about being given the runaround time and again. An hour later, hitchedboy sent me a progress photo. This honestly surprised me, given that I'd been convinced that they hadn't even started, and the completion level seemed to me to be more than could be done in an hour. I informed them of corrections that needed to be made, making sure to be thorough since I didn't know if I would even get a chance to see another WIP before the picture was finished. [6] October 3rd-5th - I ensured that hitchedboy was aware of, and agreed to, the deadline for the piece. [7] October 21st - For the first time, hitchedboy sent me a progress update without being prompted. They said they hoped to have it done by the next day (of course, this didn't happen.) [8] October 24th - hitchedboy apologized for the delay, citing issues with the background. [8] October 30th-31st - The day before the due date, hitchedboy contacted me to say that the art was done, but they were unable to upload it. They claimed to be out of the house again and they would have someone else try to upload the picture while they were gone. Not only had I not gotten to see and approve the final product, I wasn't even told what website I should expect to find it on. In addition, I was extremely confused as to why they didn't just try a different site if they were having trouble with one in particular. I heard neither hide nor hair from them on the actual due date. [9] November 2nd-10th - I would otherwise have just written this off if not for the fact that they had actually completed a good deal of progress on the commission as per the one WIP I received, so continued to message hitchedboy in an attempt to just wrap up the whole ordeal. They claimed to have been in the hospital. No progress was made towards resolving the situation. [10] November 15th - I made another contact attempt on Discord, directly @'ing hitchedboy when I saw them appear as active. [11] While gathering up info to make this beware, I noticed that their Instagram username had been changed to oatiemeal. The account showed activity as of 10 hours earlier (no screenshot of this), and the link in their profile now led to a newly made DeviantArt page under the name seafowl. [12] The recent submissions in this gallery were pieces that had been completed and uploaded on November 3rd and subsequently, when they claimed to not have internet access. Giving the benefit of the doubt, I sent them a polite Instagram message. They responded only to request that I contact them on Discord, which I had been doing for the past 2 weeks. I admittedly lost my cool at this point, which I should not have done. Despite the fact that I knew they no longer used the website where the commission originated, I gave them a deadline to produce either the supposedly completed art or a refund. [13] To this date I have seen neither. (I also messaged them on Discord again as per their request, in case that would produce results somehow - it did not.) [14] I'm very upset because I was really looking forward to getting art from this artist. Quite frankly, I'm not too broken up about losing the payment for the commission, as I would much rather have the art. I can only count myself lucky that I paid in non-monetary currency, and hopefully they aren't doing this to customers on DeviantArt or Instagram as well. EXPLAIN: On September 30th, I had been browsing FA. I stumbled upon Anney's FA page where she had a character for sale, a green sabertooth tiger. After browsing, I saw she had been open for custom characters and I was interested in one as I wanted a saber of my own as well. She had given me her Discord to talk business. The character design itself was $10 and then, a couple minutes on, I asked about if I could have it made into a full reference sheet. She agreed and said the price would be $15 instead of $10. I agreed and was told I'd get two poses, a headshot, and a closeup of the characters paws. The character was going to be a saber, as well. We had agreed on the piece taking two days to complete. However, I don't have this exact proof since she deleted the post we discussed that on off of FurAffinity. However, later on in the messages it's pretty much implied as such by our conversation. I paid the $15 and the wait began. ( Read more... ) Two days later, I received a sketch of the character. She wasn't... really a saber but I loved her regardless. After I gave her the okay to continue, I didn't hear from her for another two days. At this point, she's already past her deadline she told me but a couple days wouldn't kill me. I didn't honestly expect it that quick, but still. On October 3rd, I messaged her and asked if there was any update. She told me she had been busy with other commissions and that she'd work on lining and then coloring the piece the next day. Fine by me. Two weeks went by without hearing a single thing from her. I messaged her again and asked asked about an update and she said that she had been busy with school and work now. I was then told I'd get an update when she got home from one of the two and I took that as an okay. I had a feeling things were getting sketchy at this point. I never got that update. Another week went by and I asked her what was up. I voiced how I was getting frustrated being told I'd get updates and progress but I never got any. All I got were empty promises. I then told her that I was starting to get to the point of asking for a refund. When I did, she REALLY started ignoring me. For two days, I got no response back. On the 21st of October, I messaged her again and asked if she was really going to start ignoring me. She then apologized and said she was going to go home and work on the picture. FINALLY I got an update. She sent a picture of the colored character and asked if it was fine. Just wanting my character and art done, I agreed and said that the colors were fine. From that point on, I've gotten NOTHING from her. On November 11th, I asked for an update. I got nothing. So on the 13th, I grew tired of it. I told her I wanted a refund as what she was doing was VERY unfair to me. I had given her plenty of time and chances and got nothing but empty promises and lies in return. On the same day, I filed a PayPal dispute to get my money back. She has not replied to any of the posts on PayPal. She has had time to post links to t-shirt designs she's selling which was posted four days ago, along with many other adopts. She's constantly online on Discord, as well, so I KNOW she's seeing my DM's. I also happened to go on her page and saw someone else asked her to reply to her Notes. UPDATE 11/25/2018: I started a PayPal dispute on November 11, 2018 and she never responded to it. Instead, she has vanished into thin air. She is no longer using Discord or she unfriended me. Not sure which. She has also deactived her FurAffinity and any other sites she used for art. Because she did not respond, I won the case and was given back my money. PROOF: PayPal Payment. (dead_punk_fox) wrote in artists_beware, @ 2018-11-01 15:47 Commissioner Beware - Prince_Vaxis WHO: Prince_Vaxis on FA, Vaxi on Discord WHERE: Through FA, then through Discord DMs WHAT: Commission fell through, he wanted to commission me for digital artwork to have one slot auctioned off. WHEN: October 29-30. EXPLAIN: At first I was hesitant to post a beware about this, but the more I thought about it the more obvious that his conduct was wildly inappropriate with me. A few of my associates (commissioners and artists) also felt a beware was necessary to warn other artists about him. Especially since it can be intimidating dealing with a client who has a good amount of watchers and commissions more well known artists, and it's common for artists to acquiesce to a client's demands because of these things. It started off as him claiming a slot on FA (since deleted) and then wanting to discuss it further via Discord, which I don't mind. I keep my Discord public and am fine talking to whoever. At first he wanted a bust commission, which would have fit within his budget. Then he waffled and decided he wanted a much larger idea, however he fought me every step of the way on cost. He was pushing for more and more to be included, things which are way outside the amount of time I have to devote for so little pay. At the end, I told him he was demanding way too much for what he was paying, because what he wanted was essentially a two character full color, which I charge $300 for per image. The end of it has him cursing me out, trying to call me over Discord (I assume to yell at me over voice, had this happened I would have recorded it as well), which I am EXTREMELY uncomfortable with and what really pushed me to write this beware. I don't voice chat in private with random people, and certainly not with someone who's behavior turned suddenly sour. It was likely an attempt to intimidate me into handing him a full refund (which I have done at this point). And him bringing up breaking his commissioner's TOS (??? which sounded extremely sketchy to me, since a TOS is a terms of service for the person providing a service). PROOF: Some of the screenshots do have NSFW art in them, this was him illustrating what he wanted. The conversation is also NSFW as it delves into the aspects he wanted included in the picture. Also included is the sketch work I had done for him that he didn't want to pay for. I apologize for how many screenshots there are, I wanted to include everything. The only part I left out was conversation about our pets and other casual stuff. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1GhKNGZqpq0ZsFPMAmvPV1k8ZPuP9MxzC Edit: Update 4.12.19 I actually do have an addition to this caution. He has NOT spoken to me since before he was removed from the original A_B LJ community. I have had absolutely no contact and he has not made any apologies to me. If he's messaging anyone claiming he has, he's lying.

I am fortunately able to salvage enough from our text chatlogs (that he didn't delete) that should be enough to piece together what happened . This person commissioned me for a design for his character, along with a reference sheet. I charged him $50, and since we were lovers, I told him to hold onto it so we could put it towards a commission for us both. We fell out, I lost my desire to take any commission with him, but he refused to give me my $50 back. To begin, Talen and I used to be in a relationship, and I was the one who introduced him to the scalie community. As a symbol of our love, I made for him, for free, a design for his character along with a reference sheet for it. I'd like to say here that the process of creating that reference sheet for him was painful, with me streaming the process of the art to him and creating design after design that he kept asking for tweaks or redesigns on, bouncing between every little detail asking me to make drastic changes again and again. Nevertheless, I completed it and sent him the finished file. The date was July 8. After a week of finishing the reference sheet, though, he asked for changes to the design, and along with some other personal disputes, I told him that I would charge him no less than $50, and he agreed. [1] Honestly, $50 for a full reference sheet at this quality is one hell of a deal, so to this day, the fact that he is unwilling to pay up is due to pettiness. I continued to stream to him, in the exact same process of him asking for change after change after change on the designs that I came up with. I finished up the reference sheet on July 30, and told him to hold on to the $50 so he could pay that much in my stead when we decide to go for a commission together. Fast forward to early August when he broke up with me for other relationship-related reasons. He still wanted to be friends, and though it hurt me, I continued to be friends with him, and he was still holding on to the $50 that he owes me. [2] Since then, throughout the next two months, I've made repeated mentions for him to just return me my $50, though every time he tried to convince me to just get a commission with him. He never denied it, but he knows he owes me $50. [3] Fast forward again to mid-October, I made a request of him to stop mentioning all the new friends he's trying to date because I was still hurting from the breakup, and he straight up flamed me in voice chat, in the most toxic manner one can imagine, all for being "soft" or "overreacting". At that point, I snapped, and demanded my $50 back, but he refused, going between excuses such as "I can pay you the $50, but I won't" to "I only have $7 in my bank account, I can't pay you", all between a lot of name-calling, flaming, and accusing me of "blackmail" (in his technical terms, "defamation for the purposes of monetary gain", which you can totally twist "I'll tell peeps you're a thief if you steal money from me" into). He proceeded to block me from all communications. [4][5] Upon contacting one of his friends who know him better, I learned that Talen is simply that way and that my $50 is lost. I have contacted another of his friends recently, who willingly acted as an arbiter between me and Talen, and given him an ultimatum: pay me, or stop using my design. At this point, Talen had removed my reference sheet from his gallery, and currently plans to use one of the art commissions he got from another artist as his new reference sheet, except that commission's character was fully taken from my design and refsheet. [1] July 26: https://i.imgur.com/zRfFAgj.png I have blacked out all things related to our personal issues; I can provide the non-censored text if inquired. [2] August 10: https://i.imgur.com/zx96ExG.png The "Option A" and "Option B" was, explained simply, "cut off contact from each other" and "remain friends and help each other recover" respectively. [3] August 10: https://i.imgur.com/7yULthl.png This one is where he suggests artists and I explain fully what I meant. In the end, it is still clear he owes me $50. I have blacked out the exact values that he had bragged about spending on commissions and toys already as well as how much he still had at the time. I have also blacked out other names and the segue into the discussion about our own personal issues. [4] October 18: https://i.imgur.com/Vs7uxB8.png This is our full conversation on FurAffinity directly after the last straw. Since they were all separate responses, I have taken the liberty to format the screenshots into a chatroom structure for the sake of readability; no content has been altered. Personal issues and discussions have been blacked out, except for the final one. [5] October 19: https://i.imgur.com/sLEJ1Dy.png These are excerpts from our final argument in a separate Discord server, highlighting his denial and hypocrisy. There have been many repeated mentions of "blackmail" and threatening legal action on his part that do not contribute to the discussion, so I have cut those out. I have also blacked out what he claimed to have in his bank account; the decimal place should tell you enough. Honestly, I was very angry at that point, so some things I said was cringe-worthy; I have left those in for the sake of context. There are lessons to be learned from this story, in particular for me. I have learned to recognize red flags that would ruin a relationship, and I have also learned that I should never provide the final finished commission without payment first, whether I trust the person on a romantic level or not. I understand that this may be a more "special" case of Artist Beware in that the business is intertwined with personal feud; I have tried my best to omit most of the personal stuff from my images, but some I have kept in due to their vague relation to the transaction at hand. Another thing I am unsure of is whether I should include the artwork in question in this post for clarity and also as proof in case he actually does continue to get commissions with the same character design. I'll edit it in underneath all this if you guys want me to. I currently plan on selling the character design and reference sheet to someone else with little to no changes to the actual design, since the design of the character is still mine.
  16. October 25 2018, 17:48 Artist Beware: Baasil I shall begin this with a little warning. I was uninformed about the actual stipulations of Paypal; I have always thought it was only 60 days, and not 120 days for buyer protection. With that said I was a bit assertive to this commissioned person. I thought my time was running out and dry, but this could have easily been resolved with some reassurance by this commissioned person. WHO: Baasil [http://www.furaffinity.net/user/baasil/] SpicyBaasil [https://picarto.tv/SpicyBaasil] WHERE: Stream: SpicyBaasil [https://picarto.tv/SpicyBaasil] WHAT: This was meant to be a quick icon and a full color commission that stretched at most a 2 or 3 week period as stated by the artist. WHEN: August 31, 2018 - October 21, 2018 EXPLAIN: The situation all started on August 31st 2018… I commissioned this artist in the early hours of 6am, but their stream ran short and they had been up all night for that day. They said they would complete my commission the following day. I am always forgiving and being an artist myself was totally fine with waiting until tomorrow. Tomorrow came, and nothing had been done. I did not expect the requested art of a full color commission the following day, but I did expect some progress on this icon we had discussed in stream before. Shortly after there was a Hurricane that struck their area, no damage other than power outages on Sept 9th … I went along with what they said to me in that journal, that they will be working offline for their owed art due to those who had worked with them prior to the storm. Being patient I waited until days passed. Sept 24th came I asked for n update since their queue listing isn’t quite listed anywhere I can find. My sketch was promised the week of Sept 24th September 24th was a Monday and the 29th would be the end of this week After these following messages my patience became stale and I had to be a bit more blunt as I have seen little to no action by this artist to do their duties. I was giving the benefit of the doubt to them and letting them tackle on a new icon since it’s been rough times. Again another false promise “tomorrow” my patience is already running thin by now. As I do not want this artist do to any more work than is required I wanted to make it clear that this is replacing what we had previously discussed. Now comes the true fallout and where I feel insulted by this artist. [for some reason it has “RE” even tho this is initial messages] This is the point where I thought I am running out of buyers protection and being a bit more blunt with this artist. Tomorrow promises yet again still being forgiving to this artist as I know how times can be tough. Confirming and thanking on the new family member, at this point it has been a total of 46 days from initial commissioning. The icon was meant to be done the DAY after I commissioned them, and the art was to be done in 14/21 days from commission date. Things turn sour~ It was at this point that I thought my buyers protection was running out and thought 60 days was the final cut off for my protection. This could have been so easily retorted by the artist letting me know I had 180 days but they decided to go a different route. Their claim is that they have had my work done, but I do not believe them. I have no means of guaranteeing or not that they had my work done. I also felt sympathy for them because I do commission work too but of a different kind. This was the most insulting thing of our interaction. As a client it is not my duty to keep notes on what you as a professional artist are owing me. This is a blurry pic just where we had a verbal agreement of work we had done. It’s the best I could do I am sorry. Their vod was low resolution. They got the idea of me being under the YCH through my personal Furaffinity Page. As I thought my time was running out I had to pressure them. Things got hostile. They got really mad at me, granted I was being very direct and blunt. I was just tired of hearing the three or four confirmations of getting my art done “this week” // “tomorrow” that I was basically done with this whole situation and wanted my money back. This is where things turned sour and I lost trust in this person. The fact that they are threatening defaming my name even tho my only fault was being assertive made me wary of their intentions. “Rest of refund, you’re even making money on it because I can’t be bothered to figure out fees. If you still action, I will be pursuing theft by deception charges and reporting to FA. :D” After issuing a 30 USD charge when I specifically told them the amount. After this moment I just refunded both their initial 10 usd and their 30 dollars sent. The saga ends there. This was the worst interaction I’ve ever had with an artist in my time on Furafinity. Could have simply been reassured by some condolences to me. Letting me know I had extra time vs when i assert myself threatening defamation. I am not sure what circles they run with, but hopefully I am blocked by anyone who sides with their antics. PROOF: Inline linking as conversation goes on, but will include all here in order of all my messages on FA. https://i.imgur.com/B3xOVqw.jpg

Especially from such an incredibly talented artist, as they can come across as a bit intimidating at times, she was just amazing, and by the end I just wanted to give her a hug. haha http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5949168 unicorn_magic Jun. 21st, 2011 04:47 pm (local) hunter_san/weavermage 1. hunter_san/weavermage 2. I rarely commission other artists, because usually when I want something panned out on a canvas, I do it myself. However, I'm too busy with commissions atm to really produce something nice for myself. So I asked PurpleKecleon to do a Pokemon-themed picture for me. Waited for about a month, but the wait was worth it (I think she had a fairly large list anyway). Anywho, the picture she made for me was just eye-candy in all aspects. I actually found myself drawn towards the fire and the water more in the image then the characters themselves. Expensive commission, but worth every penny. Plus, she's very nice to boot. :) Picture can be found here(WARNING: NSFW): http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5910646/ straychowchow Jun. 23rd, 2011 03:21 am (local) SoulsPoison 1. I submitted my request for commission and was given a slot and told it would be a 'couple of weeks'. Unfortunately after that the communication only happened when I started it. I do understand she has a very hectic schedule but it felt as if I was being pushed to the wayside. When I did finally receive my piece it looked a bit rushed and not quite as I had hoped. I do understand artistic licensing but there was a significant difference between my reference photographs and the final product. I did tell her, once I received it, that I loved it.. because the relief at getting the final project made me jump at giving her some feedback, however after I had time to look at the finer details I realized that it wasn't quite as I'd wanted (as example the necklace looking like it was copied from the reference photo, pasted on and then given a filter to give it a similar appearance). A message explaining this was sent to her and I'm now waiting for acknowledgment that it was even received. Will update when further communication is received and/or issue resolved. ? Edit: Artist has made contact and explained details satisfactorily. I consider this event closed/handled. ?
  19. I've been in contact with her since making this post and I believe we'll be working things out just fine! I'm going to put the entry behind a LJ cut but other than that will not be editing it or deleting it in any way for the sake of the community rules and what not, thank you! WHO: LadyAvali WHERE: LadyAvali and Altana on DeviantArt, Avali on tumblr WHAT: $20 Digital Sketch Commissions WHEN: April 20th - commissions open and paid for. Last communication on May 19th. PROOF: Various screenshots of the dates mentioned below in case of deletion: Journal #1 - Journal #2 - Journal #3 - Journal #4 - My last communication with her - Note about her moving accounts EXPLAIN: Back on April 20th, she posted a DevArt Journal saying she was doing some very lovely sketch commissions for $20 USD. She had 15 slots, so at $20 a pop, that's a hefy $300 all in advance - I believe the slots were cleared out in less than 24 hours. Now, I have never paid for a commission 100% in advance - sometimes I'll pay after a sketch phase or when the piece is half done - but this was my first time paying in advance. I normally wouldn't have, but she has done this style of commission before and it seemed to go very well, so I thought it would be okay. On April 23rd, she posted on DevArt that she was going out of town for the weekend and would be "having a livestream on Monday" to get these knocked out. On May 3rd, she posted on DevArt that the bad weather was keeping her from working on commissions. I understand tornados, bad weather, etc - I live in Tornado Alley myself - but considering that was 10 days after she posted about just being gone for the weekend... On May 18th, she once again posted that the 'last few commissions' were going out. By this point, I had sent her a polite message asking if she had any updates about how long the sketches would take. The day after she made that journal, on May 19th, she sent me a note on DA asking for my reference info again (even though it was in that first post, like all other references). I sent it back to her that same day and I have heard nothing from her since. I have sent her one other polite message since then just asking for an update. Today, I stopped by DeviantArt again just to see if she had responded, and although she has not posted anything on her account, the user GoblinCrusher94 has gone around posting that she's "got a new account and this one is dead" on her comments. The new account is the one I linked to above, Altana (which actually seems like it's an old account she left, then returned to - or at least is planning to return to. It's very confusing). And of course on top of this, she is updating her art tumblr rather constantly. I'm not sure how many out of those 15 people haven't received their art, but I know for SURE at least one other hasn't, user nosebleeds, because he is a dear friend of mine and we've both been complaining about this a bit together, heh. I have no problem waiting a bit for commissions, I really don't - as long as the line of communication is kept open. When an artist stops responding all together to messages, changes DevArt accounts, doesn't update about it on her Journal and I KNOW I'm not the only one that got screwed... well. I think it's at least time to step up and say something. It doesn't help that it was a pre-paid commission, so like I said - if none of the 15 people have received their sketches, that's $300 she's basically pocketed while we all wait for our art not even knowing what Deviant Art account she's on these days. (sorry if this is a little tl;dr! I try to be as thorough as possible when I do something like this!)

(Deleted comment) tech_rex May. 31st, 2011 12:21 am (local) I checked through his gallery and my email account, sadly nothing. astralabortion May. 31st, 2011 12:52 am (local) Man, you are bloody lucky I checked LJ after stumbling home tonight. XD Here's the thing: I popped open FA after a near-three-month hiatus back on the 25th and poured through my notes, found yours - I do have your commission, inked, lying around here somewhere, but it's anyone's guess as to which pile of artwork it's in. I thought I'd have some spare time this weekend to sift around and find it, but that proved not to be the case. You've got a few options: 1). Give me a bit of time to sort through my paperwork and find the inked item; I'll scan it and pass it off to you to see if you feel it's worth me moving forward with completion. 2). I do recall this image not being something I was terribly happy with and had a much better idea a while after I first got to work on it. Another option is to give me a little while to whip out that other idea and go from there, though it seems we're well past the point of discussing revisions. 3). Take the full refund. Ball's in your court. I'll be cool with whatever you decide to do. ? fenrirs_child May. 31st, 2011 01:33 am (local) no offense, and i know this has nothing to do with me, but what's with the attitude? bloody lucky? it seems as if you're the one who's not been good with communication, so i think the hostility is far from warranted... astralabortion May. 31st, 2011 01:34 am (local) Would you like to commission me to draw you a custom infographic outlining how little I care about your opinion of my attitude? ? fenrirs_child May. 31st, 2011 01:40 am (local) no, but i'll enjoy the fact that your sarcasm and general abrasiveness will lose you many customers, as i'm sure i won't be the only one reading this here ;3 astralabortion May. 31st, 2011 01:46 am (local) ...you mean, I won't get to draw MORE contrived amalgams of some teenager's anguish over enduring a middle American suburbanite lifestyle? See this is where knowing Exo personally comes in handy, as I read something entirely different in the text. Remember, what may /seem/ rude or not is how we read into it. Personally I thought that it was his normal sarcasm and wit coming through, and it can be can be sharp but humorous. Inside trader. HA! However, there is a time and place for such things, and often the internet is not one of them due to lack on context. *chuckles* *sighs* spdora May. 31st, 2011 07:44 am (local) Especially with a client, when money is involved, and professionalism is needed. I know Exo to some extent and I read that as him being witty, but at the same time I recognize that society (agree or disagree, it is what it is) demands professionalism when dealing in business venues so, yes. There is a time and place. kairi_koitra May. 31st, 2011 08:58 am (local) Same I know exo personally. He isn't trying to come off as rude it's just his sarcastic way of doing things. Many times I think commissioners tend to neglect to look at artists journals and posts reading the normal way the communicate. Sometimes you'll often see commissioners complain about rude or nasty artists but yet at the same time this is how the artist has always been and acts. You can't fault a person for the way they normally are. He's like this with everyone this is exo being exo. He doesn't hide it nor does he try to sho it under the rug. While I can agree he took awhile to get back with the commissioner things happen. It's not an excuse nor does it mean I'm shaking his responcibility to do the work he was paid to do but artists are human to sometimes they forget things and sometimes life just gets in the way. Personally he owes me two works as well but i'm not sweating it he'll get to it when he gets to it. He's probably one of the most critical artists I know he critizies everything he does and redoes things twenty times and still isn't happy with it. But thats how he works he doesn't want to give a commissioner a steaming hot pile of penciled out *crap* but to give them something worth what they paid him to do. Which both he and the commissioner both will be happy. Thats the sign of a good artist and not just a wham bam thank ya mam artist. You get what you pay for. Yes this would entirely be better if he kept in contact more and he isn't even arguing that point but you guys are hanging him out to dry for an attitude that he's always had. That if the orignal commissioner would have read his journal posts or looked at his other ways of reacting to things should have been aware of as well. I'm not saying he's right in the way he act's Im saying he's acting in the way he always has. Tact and professionalism sometimes gets lost in a pile of paperwork. kadaria May. 31st, 2011 09:21 am (local) >Im saying he's acting in the way he always has< And it really hasn't done much for him in the past either if you check the tags where he uses the same attitude and even lies to a customer about a shipping date. Put aside for a moment that this artist is your friend and think about any other customer service job. -Do you think you would last in any of them if you were nasty and sarcastic to your customers? How would your manager respond when you were called on your bad attitude and you told her "That's just the person I am take it or leave it."? -What about if when customers paid you, instead of giving them what they bought you "forgot" about it and kept the money? Would they think you were a good, trustworthy person or a scammer? -How happy are customers when orders are lost, calls not returned or they feel "stiffed" from a deal? How does this look to other people who may be interested in commissioning you? If this keeps happening to him: >Tact and professionalism sometimes gets lost in a pile of paperwork< Then he really shouldn't be in any kind of customer service job, let alone art commissions which require discipline as well as good customer service to thrive. kairi_koitra May. 31st, 2011 09:43 am (local) Again your quoting the same thing he has other posts on here as well. did I in any way shape or form deny that he was wrong in his actions? No. I simply stated that its not only the artists responcibility to complete a piece of work it is also a responcibilty onto a commissioner to do research on an artist before giving them their hard earned money. A lot of commissioners would save themeselves a huge headache and ending up in this situation if they would research an artist before paying them. A friends word is great but using tools such as A_B is even better. Exo has more then one post on here about his habits and manners if people would take the time to read up before paying an artist to do a piece of work things like this wouldn't happen. They would know about his lack of emailing his bad attitude etc. Heck if they would have thumbbed through his journals etc on FA or LJ they would see he has an attitude problem. The point is that his bad attitude is everywhere all people have to do is do a bit of research and they can see it. If I'm going to go to a fancy resturant and spend hard earned money on a meal. I think I'm going to research where i'm going a bit to see if they live up to what i'm paying for. Everyone blames the artists for things but in the same light the commissioners should be held for lack of doing research as well. synatri May. 31st, 2011 09:52 am (local) ... What? So you're saying it's the commissioner's fault that they didn't realize that the artist is a douche before they commissioned him, so it's okay for him to be a douche? Really? hamburger May. 31st, 2011 09:57 am (local) No name-calling, please.
  21. May. 30th, 2011 at 11:37 PM tech_rex WHO: Exodite Dragon, Astralabortion WHERE: http://www.furaffinity.net/user/astralabortion (transaction went through email) WHAT: Line art of one character on bristol board WHEN: December 16 2009 was the initial agreement and payment (which can be found in the Proof section). I gave him the choice betwen two characters I'd like to see his take on, and he chose a character named Lazarus. He said the commission would be done at the end of December, and though it was not completed by then, I was not irked. In January I receieved a phonecall from a friend who was visiting Exo, asking a question about my character's breasts (they're prostetics) as a sketch was being worked on with my friend helping, my response was they could be anything, including weapons. I could hear Exo inthe background saying he loved the character design, so still I had no worries. Friend updated me later through AIM saying that I'll really like the finished product. I have yet to see the sketch. From mid to end 2010 I had several RL issues pop up so that commission in paticular was one of the last things on my mind, as well as working on several commissions of my own having difficulties finishing them, I felt it would be hyprocrisy poking Exo. In February 2011 I felt things been straightened out enough, so I emailed Exodite on the 27th with an inquiry seeing if he still remembered my commission. He has since taken commissions in the form of ACEO cards and had a list of people whose commissions he was working on, but I was not included in the list and progess being made on these commissions, but not mine. At this point all I wanted to know was that he had not forgotten about my commission. At the time he appeared to have had steady internet connection (enough to have a livestream on the 4th of March), but I still did not recieve a response. He has mentioned he is slow to respond to emails, so I waited before finally noting him on FA on March 24th wanting to see either the sketch and be placed on his list or recieve a refund. At this point I was a little irked. I realized he had not been active since the 15th of March, checking his LJ (on his FA profile) showed that the last time he was active on LJ was also the 15th of March. So I felt I like jumped the gun, and decided I'll wait, since he has lost connection before but has had people contact his commissioners and the lack of internet may have just been temporary. I was working on a A_B article looking for a way to contact him when Exodite reappeared on FA. As of May 25th my note was read, but was not responded to. I emailed and noted Exodite a second time on May 27th. In both the email and note were effectively the same, except I pasted the paypal receipt (minus my name and address) in the note. I have recieved no response, but he appears to be active on FA. Proof: The Paypal Reciept: 1st email stating when he was aiming to get the commission done: 1st Email I sent him in February: Note sent on the 24th of March, I messed up the dates of the commission. The note was read, but no response. He did post a journal about a live stream and was responding to comments, and faving art so I noted/emailed him a second time. Note/Email2, sent on the 27th of May, the ony different being I included the paypal receipt in the note. I made a grammatical error, he did not respond to the first note, I left out "not". : EXPLAIN: I commissioned Exodite through suggestion of a friend who had done previous business with him, and he needed some help out and was selling lineart. At the time I was looking for a Christmas present for myself in the form of a traditional piece, and I was interested in coloring said lineart . I learned some huge lessons as a result of this. I gave Exodite the same treatment I have given previous artists I have commissioned. I should have spoken up and noted him when he started taking ACEO card commissions and ask to be put on his list then rather than waiting months down the road, reguardless of what I felt emotionally then. I tried contacting him through email since that is where the initial transaction took place, then tried notes, then notes and email. I felt two days was decent enough time for him to respond, especially given he had read one note and knew I was concerned about my commission status. I tried to be straightforward and let him know I wasn't happy. I held off repeatedly writing up an A_B article in some hope this could be settled privately. EDIT: Issue has been sorted out and refund has been recieved :B
  22. May. 26th, 2011 at 1:08 AM yujoben Who: Tigsie (http://www.furaffinity.net/user/tigsie) Where: Furry Weekend Atlanta 2011 - Artist Alley What: I commissioned a traditional-colored badge and a Pokemon-themed water-color ACEO card. Paid IN FULL with cash, and given a hand-written receipt (ACEO card was done on separate receipt, and beside the matter at hand). When: Furry Weekend Atlanta 2011 (March 19th, 2011) - May 25th, 2011 After commissioning this artist back in March, I waited a bit and was actually prepared to wait for a good solid few months since I thought her art seemed decent enough, and well worth the wait. The problems with her actually started when she posted a list of commissions that she was either working on, or had finished, and she needed the home address' of the people that commissioned them so she could send them out. She put my Pokemon ACEO card on that list. Meaning, that even though she had the address previously, she seemed to have forgotten the ACEO belonged to me, along with the badge of my character. I did what she asked in her public journal, and sent her a private note telling her my home address and reminding her it went along with the badge I ordered. ...No reply... A few weeks went by, she posted a couple more journals, and the ACEO remained on the list (now remember, the problem is actually with the badge, but these details are just to prove her bad communication). I sent her another message, and just left it at that, hoping that she'd get it eventually. Also, she normally posts what she has done for each commission so far, and mine was marked as "inked" for the longest time. Once again, I had no problem with her taking her time on it, since I wanted it to be good. My friends had gone to Elliot's (May 20th - 22nd), which I knew Tigsie would be there because she had mentioned it in her latest journal, but didn't think to ask them to check up on anything for myself. I got a call during the 22nd after the con was over from one of my friends that he had seen Tigsie, and my badge was done, and she was using it as a display piece. Now, I'm sort of sceptical here... What artist doesn't let her customer know she's finished the product and doesn't tell them she's using it as a display/example piece? Either way, I brushed it off. A couple days later (May 25th) she posts her new batch of badges onto her FA account, and mine was included as the third one from the left on the top row. Immediately, I noticed it looked off. She had completely forgotten several important (simple) details that I ALWAYS include on my character (green-tipped mohawk and thick distinctive beard), and I've never had to correct other artists on because they couldn't be blamed on "different styles" (also, it looked nothing like a bear, and more like a weasel or canine). Seeing as she STILL hasn't replied to any of the previous messages I sent her, I posted a comment publicly on the actual submission that she ruined the design, to which she FINALLY replied to me, telling me to note her privately on how she did it wrong. I noted her, as I was asked, and told what she had gotten wrong (but now that I think about it, I also failed to mention other details she missed- including how she drew headphones on him even though at the con I asked her to not include the headphones in one of the three ref pics I sent her). I get a reply back, straight up telling me she will refund the money, without even giving me another option to go by. I honestly just wanted it corrected (even though I know it's a bit difficult, being a traditional piece and not digital), and when I mentioned it she told me she'd be leaving the country soon and wouldn't be able to get to it. Not wanting to go through the same merry-go-round of insecurity, I told her to just issue me a refund as she promised (and even mentioned for her to take the fees since I paid in full with cash at the convention, and not originally through paypal). Her answer to the last message was that she would "trace" the original image to do it over before she left on vacation (meaning she'd rush through it and hope I'd be happy with it), and I simply told her to forget it and just to handle my refund as she offered previously. Totally ignoring my request to not stick me with the paypal fees, she had done it anyway, leaving me missing $1.37. I know it doesn't seem like much, but it's only fair that she take the fees herself since it was HER mistake and I'm not getting anything out of it (she had warned me that if I got the refund I would not receive the badge). When I noted her back, telling her to replace the money missing and pay the additional fee so I'd have the exact $30 paid for the badge, she plain refused me and told me she was making me pay shipping for the ACEO card I commissioned. She NEVER mentioned any additional shipping fees, and even told me when I asked her at the convention that they were covered in the base price. She ended it by telling me that the conversation would go no further, she would ship out my ACEO in the morning, and that she was still keeping my badge to use for examples (though I asked her in a previous note to NOT do that or to at least remove the name since I do not want myself associated with her any further). I have never encountered such unprofessional behavior from an artist, and I hope any who reads this will take caution. SCREENSHOTS: pics.livejournal.com/yujoben/pic/0000h21h NOTES AND COMMENTS pics.livejournal.com/yujoben/pic/0000fb4f RECEIPT References Given: www.furaffinity.net/view/4872393/ www.furaffinity.net/view/5089389/ Finished Badge: pics.livejournal.com/yujoben/pic/0000gchy EDIT: I understand that my messages seemed bitchy. They certainly were not meant that way until she made me pay the fees on paypal for her mistake. I can understand her deducting money for the work done if I cancelled for my own reasons, but it was HER fault, she didn't follow the references and ignored all tips I gave her when I commissioned her originally. Also, because a lot of people seem to be missing this tidbit of info, I paid IN CASH, full $30, so if she was offering me a full refund, there is no reason to stick me with fees. Please remember the problem here that I'm trying to point out is not centered on her inability to follow references, but her horrible customer service because of bad communication and forcing me to lose money (no matter how big or small the amount) when I am not getting anything from it (for those that say I have the scan of the badge- it is tiny, and I don't want it to begin with). It was her idea first to refund me, not mine, and when I told her I wanted it fixed she offered me two other options which did not appeal. Options are meant to be CHOSEN, so don't hate me because I picked one in the end. The first option was for me to wait another few months while she went on vacation, and I really was afraid of dealing with this whole situation again. It is very nerve-wracking to just be completely snubbed by a person you have paid money to for a service. The other option was a tracing (whether it looked professional or not), and she planned on doing a rush job in a couple of days before leaving on yet another vacation, and I don't want something rushed and uncared for. So, I took the refund in the end. Any of you who are tight on money as it is and splurged on ONE thing for yourself at a convention would expect it done right. I was forward with her, and treated her the way I want my commissioners to treat me. I hate it when someone says anything along the lines of "Um...well...it's really neat... There's just a couple details off...but it's fine. I like it!" If done enough, I become upset with them and just tell them to inform me straight-up what I need to fix, because I WILL do my best to correct it. To sum this up, I didn't think of her as a lesser person, an underling, or an art slave. I think being blunt with people is a high form of respect. Anything less, I feel I am doing the person wrong. EDIT (2/09/2012): Tigsie has surprisingly refunded the amount, and I am pretty surprised that she remembered after all of this. With all of this past us, I do wish to apologize to everyone and especially her. I was a grade-a dick, but I had my reasons. Also, at the time I was pretty new to LJ and was replying to a lot of folks that weren't even talking to me.
  23. May. 23rd, 2011 at 10:32 PM undertow26 I probably should have come here much sooner, but I held on to the hope that this person would come through for me. However, after his excuses, I'm fed up and reporting him here. I discourage anyone from commissioning him, he's been nothing but evasive. June of last year, I commissioned Coferosa on DeviantArt for a fifteen dollar sketch of a character design. I have a few links to the transaction here including proof that the payment was transferred to him. Against my better judgment, I used the points system to commission him so I'm not able to file a paypal claim. Proof the transaction was made img855.imageshack.us/img855/2139/blackened.png I edited out my main dA name. The transaction was arranged on my commission account but I paid on my main account. First few notes exchanged, he accepts the commission: img11.imageshack.us/img11/5695/theif2.png img705.imageshack.us/img705/7246/thief3.png Some time goes by. I set a deadline in the job offer post of two weeks. As of right now I don't have the link to the posting anymore. But he overshot the deadline. I politely ask the status of the commission img860.imageshack.us/img860/7734/notez.png But my note is ignored. Feeling somewhat insulted, I send him another note img713.imageshack.us/img713/7401/reply0.png I finally get a reply. He says he finished the commission. imageshack.us/photo/my-images/405/thief1.png/ After that, he goes completely silent. I admit, I should have pushed him more. Eventually it completely slipped my mind. But I decided to go through my inbox sometime in Febuary to clean out some old notes and found his. Remembering that he didn't send me a WIP or a complete picture, I note him again. By now, several months have gone by. img831.imageshack.us/img831/2341/reply1h.png I receive a reply, getting the character's name wrong and I don't buy his excuse. Art has been submitted, infrequently though he has posted new stuff. His most recent deviation was submitted May 2 of this year. img836.imageshack.us/img836/2540/reply2.png That's the last I've heard from him. I've warned him several times and now I make good on my promise. As of now I've given up any hope of him refunding the points to me or sending me the art. I have filed a report with dA's help desk but I highly doubt that they'll do anything about it. This is more of a warning to others that may have been interested in his art. It may be a case of him not having his priorities straight, but communication is awful and he'll only respond if you nudge him. Not once has he noted me to say that his computer failed, etc. Edit: As expected, I recieved a response from the staff basically saying I'm on my own here:http://oi54.tinypic.com/wa0ygk.jpg I'll try contacting the artist again with a stern note and a link to this beware. But lesson has been learned, that will be the last time I commission an artist with points unless they've proven to be a very reliable artist.

She does incredible traditional work and usually has the finished piece uploaded for you within a week or two. She is always kind or polite and does her best to capture the vision you have in mind. Youll gasp when you receive the original in the mail because the scan never truly does her art justice. She always keeps the commissioner updated on how thier piece is coming along and always always replies to notes in a timely manner. Polymorphicgirl 2. http://polymorphicgirl.deviantart.com/ 3. Around January or something 4. Well, I'm actually friends with her so communication was pretty prompt and smooth, but she's very professional and doesn't ask payment until she delivers the sketch. Once she gives the sketch and you give her the ok, she begins working on the inking and coloring; however, she won't obviously send you the finished piece until she gets her money, which I believe is pretty fair. I asked her two commissions, six characters of mine for characters sheets, no background or anything, and in about one month and a half she had delivered both of them, inked and colored. This is the finished product, the six kids at the bottom of the image. I am commissioning her again because from experience I know she will take a reasonable amount of time, will keep me up to date with the status of my commissions, and will produce a quality drawing for an affordable price. poizenkat May. 3rd, 2011 07:19 pm (local) Ayriea 1. However $1665 - $1050 = $615 which was not even the down payment. The down payment was $495 so even if there is some reason that I am not owed the original 30% (which I still have yet to clear up since she has never responded to me about this) she still owes me $120 by her own standards. With fee money included $1665 - $1081 = $584. Which is what I am currently asking for. However if her statement that I do not owe the 30% is true then: $584 - $495 = $89 So, she would still owe me $89. http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/10055-1/Screenshot-AB-1.png I was told to cover paypal fees (which is apparently against Paypal's TOS https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=p/gen/terms-outside ) so I sent her $520 with the first payment to make it even/easier to track how much I still owed. I also paid for her to ship it to me. The receipt she scanned for me: http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/10072-1/Receipt-AB-6-shipping.png (I blurred out most of my address, the address of another person she mailed something to, and her card info.) And I paid a lot more than that to ship it back to her with tracking and confirmation which was something she failed to do herself. EXPLAIN: Once again, here is a review of the costume I wrote which includes all proof needed of the quality of the product received including pictures, video and e-mails sent and received throughout the process as of March 23rd. http://community.livejournal.com/fursuitreviews/31415.html Also copy pasted here: ----REVIEW START---- I have given this maker an entire year to come clean and fix the problems with this transaction and they haven't, so unfortunately, this is not a positive review. As a DISCLAIMER, this person may have changed their ways since my commission and I have never seen the produce work of this low quality before or after my commission was made. Name of Artist: Surf Cat Costumes/SophieCabra Website: http://surfcatcostumes.com/ Character/species commissioned (link to photo/concept art): Tokkebi Kesaki, a ghost Korean Jindo dog. Here is the concept art: http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/1745-1/tokkebikesakicharactersheet.jpg I also included some snapshots of my SL avatar of her (my by my friend, Luper): http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/6484-2/Snapshot_003.png http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/6472-2/Snapshot_001.png http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/6480-2/Snapshot_002.png (I have more, but you get the idea.) Links to picture(s) of your commissioned item: Currently I have absolutely nothing, and I am down -$584, but this is what I got in the mail last year in February: http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/7306-1/IMG_5509.jpg Because there is a lot to be said about every other picture I have of it, I'll put them in the appropriate places throughout the review after all the other information has been said. Is the item old or new (if old, how long have you had it/when was it made?) This was made sometime at the end of 2009 but I did not receive it until February 2010. (again this will all be explained below.) --Grade each below aspect on a scale of 1 (worst) to 5 (best)-- Visual Aspect (does it match the concept art? Is it consistent with other items the maker has produced? Is it visually pleasing overall?): 1 Okay first, let me say, this wasn't my first fursuit commission, this was my 5th or 6th fursuit commission so I had had a lot of experience with this at this point. The product did not match the concept art to the degree I had hoped for (to me it doesn't match at all other than colors really), it's not consistent with the other items this person has made, and it came out looking pretty bad overall. Why? I was promised something I did not receive. This commission was originally going to be made by Luskwood and when they stopped taking commissions and I saw Sophie, who used to work for Luskwood had parted off and started her own company I approached her asking if she could do that quality of work for me. I had seen the work she did at Luskwood and it looked good and I had seen the suits she had made on her own at that point and I thought they looked pretty nice! She promised me this quality, she promised me leg padding, eyes that light up, glowing fur, and that she would match my concept art... you know what? here is that part of the original e-mail, no better way of putting it: First E-mail: Ooh. Awesome character. I can totally play around with some glow in the dark effects. I could hopefully even find some transparent glow airbrush paints I could highlight the fur with. The problem would be finding one that went on completely transparent. But I would love to play around with that and experiment beforehand and to see if I could get it to work for your fur. ? Anyhoo, before Luskwood disbanded, I worked with Arito, so I can do the same leg/foot padding system and whatnot. I think for the whole thing (supplies, labor, shipping) I'm going to say $1650." I was excited to hear that she liked the character because usually that means the maker will make a better product when they like the character as well! I was also excited that she promised me all of these things and that she was going to do the glow in the dark stuff as well! Sounded like a dream right? The price was the highest I had ever had at the time but I was willing to pay that much for the promised quality. (All my previous commissions at this time were a lot cheaper, were much higher quality when received and were from big names like B3/Joecifur, JillCostumes, Midori, and Rose Quoll.) Here is my initial response: "Awe, thank you so much. ? I wouldn't really need the fur to glow, but actually it does on the SL avatar my friend made for me: http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/2228-1/Snapshot_483.jpg http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/2232-1/Snapshot_480.jpg http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/2222-1/Snapshot_485.jpg Hahaha, so that would be really freaking awesome if you could figure it out. I know that paint from that kotaku link is really good for stuff like that, but I can't remember what it's called. I know Beetlecat used it once on some claws. I can do the 30% paypal deposit. Man, thanks for responding so fast, I asked for quotes from a couple other people and it's been months and no one has responded! Then you finished that Roo head recently and I was like OH DUH everything you made with Arito and the stuff you've made alone seemed to be the best work that came out of Luskwood/in the style I want! I was all emo there for a week about loosing my quote. I got a good price on it, but I don't mind paying more if I am still going to get the same quality. (It wasn't THAT far off from yours. :P) I wouldn't "need" the suit until FC 2010 so anywhere you want to put me in is fine, I am patient. XD Just tell me where to send the money and I'll snag my space! ? Thank you so much!" Well pretty much none of these promised things came out right. The bodysuit didn't fit at all (we made a duct tape dummy), most of the claws on the feet had fallen off, I couldn't see out of the head and it flopped around, it didn't look right, the "glow in the dark" fur was yellow, uneven, and atrocious. There was absolutely no body padding, the eyes didn't glow (there is more on this though, I'll explain this in the service section), there were no teeth, there was black eyebrows on it (character does not have eyebrows), the mouth and nose were uneven, the ears were uneven. There was pretty much flaws with every part of the suit. More on this in the workmanship section with pictures. Service Aspect (Deadlines. Communication. Little extras.):0 I have actually been afraid to post this part because it DID start off wonderful and she was a pleasure to talk to for months of this transaction! Everything seemed to be going great but then several major flaws we're made towards the end. She is also a well known person in the furry fandom and has a lot of friends so saying anything negative about her seemed "awful".. but these are facts, and this is what happened to me. This is long, so I am going to put it under a cut. Most of this was typed last year in April as well. Communication/Deadlines/Shipping: The suit was originally supposed to be done for Halloween or in October. I asked to have WIP photos because I am very particular with how my characters are represented and I never got any WIP pictures, then suddenly I got finished pictures of the suit the week of Halloween but it just didn't look right in the picture and the eyes looked awful to me. It looked wall-eyed and she had worn the bodysuit. I had sent her a duct tape dummy so that the suit would fit me and I was aware Sophie is bigger than me, so it made me kind of irked to see that she had worn the suit because she said it was hard to get into and I was hoping she hadn't stretched it or something like that. Here are those photos: http://www.surfcatcostumes.com/v/costumes/kesaki/ I didn't really like the head shapes and some other nit picky things from the photos but the eyes were the main turn off so I asked her to change the eyes because I was thinking maybe the other stuff looked better in person. I remembered from experiences in the past that some fursuits look like shit in photos, but in person they look really nice. I'd rather have a nice suit, than have it by Halloween! She took 2 months to change the eyes and they still didn't look right. She sent me this picture on December 3rd: http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/7856-1/eyes1.jpg I asked to see them with the lights on in them since it was the point of them and she sent me this: http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/7858-1/eyes2.jpg Which looked just as wall-eyed as the last pictures. Also.. why not ever show me the whole head at once? ? She told me she'd change them again, maybe the light effect was just not working out right and she'd replace them with glow in the dark painted blue eyes. She also promised me the suit had body padding and that the whole thing "lit up like a light bulb" before I got it. She finally replaced the eyes again by December 31st and sent me blurry cell phone pictures of it after I requested to see photos instead of her just sending it to me. http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/6943-1/s1.jpg http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/7239-1/s2.JPG I was tired of dealing with it and I wanted the suit by FC so I asked her to send me the suit because maybe they looked better in person, who knows. She told me she sent it and I waited. On January 11th I realized the suit really should have been there at that point so I asked her if she had tracking info. She evaded the question and said the post office said it would be there by Wednesday. I waited. I e-mailed her on the 14th saying it still wasn't here. She said she'd call the post office on the 15th if it still wasn't there. I told her on the 15th it still wasn't there. She never responded so I waited some more. On the 20th I e-mailed her asking if she had ever contacted the post office. She said: "I called them, got the run around, was told to email them with the receipt number. There's not record of damage, insufficient postage costs, etc. They gave me some BS about being slow after the holidays and this past federal holiday weekend, blah blah blah. I'm calling them again. They filed it as missing as transit, so from what I hear that puts a fire in their asses if it's just sitting around in some office somewhere. It really should be there today. God, I hope. If it is lost, I'd say we allow until the end of Feb to come back and after that I can either remake the costume or begin issuing you a full refund. I am terribly sorry and infuriated this is happening. Let me know if I can do anything else." I said thanks for calling and everything she had done and continued to wait for it.. Throughout all these e-mails I had asked her multiple times if she gotten insurance and tracking info on it and she kept evading my question. On the 25th I still did not have the suit so I sent her this: "Yeah I think it's gone. ? I hope you got a large amount of money claimed for insurance on that. ? I'd feel bad getting a full refund now if you didn't, but I think now I need the money more than a suit. I lost my job on the 15th. X.x GUhhhhh stupid mail!!!! I swear this character is bad luck. The badge that ****** made of her got lost too! >.<" I censored out that artist's name just in case! Yes, a badge of this character got lost as well. We both had been completely friendly with each other up to this point and there had been no problems with each other. I already didn't completely like the suit she had made just from the pictures in the first place so getting her to remake it again seemed pointless (I would've rather just had the money at this point and commissioned the suit from another maker at a later date, especially because I had also just lost my job, and on top of that someone had stolen my identity so I couldn't get my unemployment money either.) She responded: "Went to the post office today with my delivery confirmation and receipt and in person they told me that as far as their records say, it's been delivered. o.o What the post man says he believes this means is that either one of your housemates (if any) accepted the package and never told you, or got a package notice (due to you not being home or it being too big to deliver) in the mail and forgot to give it to you, or the package notice may have gotten lost. Their advice was to have you check with anyone in your house, as well as head to your local post office ASAP. If it's been been sitting in the local USPS for a while, then that's why it's just been lost in transit without response. After a few weeks they will sent it back to me, which the post man told me can take quite a while. If you can check any roommates as well as your local post office as soon as you can, that would be the next best course of action. Please let me know!" I sent back this: "Hi ----, I don't have any housemates and nothing has ever gotten lost in the mail here at all in the past. ? I have received numerous LARGE boxes in the past, too. I just live with my boyfriend and we would've seen it if it got here. I will check the post office tomorrow I guess... ? We haven't gotten any notices. You sent it to *****ADDRESSS****** Right? I'll let you know ASAP what I hear from my post office." I wanted to double check my address because people spell it wrong all the time. Sophie responded: "Yeah, I didn't know if you had any, so I was just passing along info. Anyhoo, try the post office and see. That is the address I sent it to, so hopefully the post office was just being stupid and it's sitting with them." This is when I went to the post office on the 29th of January and e-mailed her this: "The post office says they didn't receive anything at all for me. I had them look all over in the back. Are you sure it was confirmed received?? Was it at a different post office? If you got insurance on the package, you should have a tracking number (according to the person at my post office.) I have a feeling it's lost or... at a different post office? My post office definitely doesn't have it. x.x I don't know why it would be confirmed received if it wasn't in ******." I spent a lot of time down there and they had nothing... This is also where I found out that she DID NOT get insurance or tracking on the suit. On the 30th I was upset so I sent her an e-mail explaining to her why I'd rather have the money than another suit because it seemed to me that it was definitely lost. I spilled my guts, I was stupid, I TOLD HER EVERYTHING that had happened to me up to that point because I was stressing out and so that she wouldn't think I was BSing about wanting the full refund that she had promised instead of another suit. I also asked her if she had actually sent it because it was just too weird that the post office had absolutely no record of it and that I was upset with her for not getting insurance and tracking. I was nice about everything I said in the e-mail. I asked to see the receipt so that if there was any tracking at all I could find it from the receipt. I got back an angry e-mail from her... in which she refused to refund me, but she scanned the receipt. She accused me of receiving the package and not telling her. We both basically got unreasonably mad at each other about the stupid USPS losing the package of the suit I was promised was of good quality. These e-mails are really long and tl;dr so I will leave them out and just put these summaries here. x.x I told her that I would wait 2 months for it to show up, but if it didn't I would still expect a refund to be an option if I didn't want her to remake the suit. On the 31st she e-mailed me back and said she could do the refund.. I'll just copy paste that e-mail, I can't summarize it well. "I firstly want to apologize for accusing you of lying. I was on the defense for being accused as well of something I would never do to a customer. I believe we are both just running a bit of a temper due to a regretful situation that is out of our hands. We both don't know each other personally, so it's easy to assume. It's stressful, but I think we both got any suspicions under the bridge and we can work to fix it. I do think you misunderstood me about the refund. Perhaps I worded it poorly, but I meant that I could not offer you a full refund right this minute. Firstly I really believe that we should wait the two months, and I am grateful you agree. But also I meant that I could not offer the full refund all at once. It would have to be paid back in installments, much like how I accept payment for costumes. As for it showing up in the hopeful case it will, I said in my previous email that I would be glad to change the design a bit so you could sell it without selling your character. I have no problem with offering you that at all. I encourage you, should it come to that, to allow me to do so, since I know my own work more than anyone else would. If it's truly just the head that's the problem, I can remake the head if the costume resurfaces. I still believe that I followed the concept to the best of my ability. But I also understand that the way we all see and interpret art can vary. I don't know if this would be a solution for you, but one thing I've done with previous customers is to sketch their character in my own style and render it out as such. It has been a very successful exercise in the past and I think it might work for you. Basically I would email you a bunch of sketches and you can pick and choose what you'd like. Anyways, I believe patience is our biggest ally right now and all we can do is hope it shows up. I am still going to be hawking around on the USPS phonelines until I've gotten an answer. Despite not having on-site tracking, USPS does track all packages in their own system, all I have to do is find someone on the phone that is willing to let me know what their systems are saying. I do not know why they would have told me it's delivered if it was not, but I know that I can find out somehow. It's a government agency and it is a bureaucratic mess to navigate. I will get answers, however, and I will pass them along to you as soon as I have some. Hope you are well and at ease at least a little bit," I explained to her all the things I would want changed if she wanted to remake the suit head (this was before I knew of the actual quality I would receive in the mail.) I thought only the head was a problem at this point, so it all seemed reasonable. Lots of time passed. On February 6th the suit miraculously shows up. The suit was the most terribly crafted suit I have ever had in my own possession. NONE of those things I was promised were on it. The whole suit was crammed into a huge box with no packing material at all as well... I told her my honest opinion on everything including pictures like I have posted here. Her response: "All right, send it back to me. Once I get it in hand I'll start issuing a refund in installments to be completed by Aug 1st. I will sell the costume off myself." On top of this I was told she was writing snarky posts about me on her LJ this whole time! I did not see them myself but people told had me about them. ? I never had any "buyer's remorse" for the suit I EXPECTED to get, the product I received was just NOT WHAT I BOUGHT AT ALL. There was no body padding, the eyes didn't glow, it didn't match my art, it was not Luskwood quality..etc.etc.etc. I'd be perfectly happy if I had gotten what I had commissioned. Anyways, you can see why I was not pleased with the amount of money I paid. Manda did not cost anywhere near that much and is MUCH MUCH higher quality..and she fits me, I also never sent Joe a duct tape dummy either, he just did it right with nothing but measurements and she still fit me. Licorice and Cricket were even cheaper and are just as high of a quality as Manda. Pierah was cheap as hell and much better quality, my "secret" suit is obviously higher quality and extremely cheap, same goes for Sync and none of them cost anywhere near this much. I was expecting the quality I had gotten in the past from other makers but with everything promised. I sent it back to her as soon as I could after getting back and asked her to tell me when she got it. I paid an extra $65 total to ship it and to get tracking and insurance on it (I will never get that back, but I knew that!) I just wanted to send it back to her right. It got back in a timely manor. I expected installments of payment like I was promised because she had said she didn't have the money so I agreed to have it by August 1st. I sent this to her on March 2nd because she hadn't told me she got it yet: "Hi, ----! I am just checking in, did you receive the suit yet? I sent it with insurance and tracking on the 18th, but the USPS website is giving me errors when I put the tracking number in. (Can anything with them ever work right?) Anyways, if you didn't get it yet, I am going to go down to the post office and figure out if they messed up their system or something. Thanks!" She never responded to it. So I sent this on March 18th. "Hey, just checking again since I never got a response back before. I just want to make sure everything gets there. Thanks," She responded: "Hey, I got your box. No worries." I never got any payment installments as promised but I randomly got most of it back on April 18th. This suit or.. lack there of.. THIS EXPERIENCE cost me: $584 + the money I spent to send it back to her.. and whatever I paid to send her a duct tape dummy which I doubt she used. I e-mailed her about this remaining money and she never responded. I e-mailed her again last month giving her an ultimatum, she sends the money back but the end of March or I go to court. I am hoping I won't have to go to court, but what's done is done. TL;DR: She didn't meet the deadline, the eyes never looked right, she promised me she could do something she obviously couldn't (make glowing eyes like my art), it got lost in the mail, she didn't put tracking on it, I asked for a refund when I got a bad product, she refused, she finally paid me back most of it, she still owes me money a year later and has about a week to pay me back before I go to small claims court. Workmanship Aspect (Is the sewing neat? Are things that should be sewn glued or vise versa? Does it fit? Has anything fallen off yet that shouldn’t have):1 Now to explain everything individually... First off, not fitting. I sent her a duct tape dummy so you'd think it fit? I don't know how she made it on it but it seemed to fit her pretty well: http://surfcatcostumes.com/v/costumes/kesaki/IMG_0915.JPG.html Here it is on me: http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/7306-1/IMG_5509.jpg (ignore my hair popping out.) http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/7280-1/IMG_5522.jpg (There was no leg padding.) Here it is with a pair of pants on top to show just how baggy it was on me: http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/7898-2/IMG_5594.JPG http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/7882-2/IMG_5592.JPG It had some strange crotch bunching thing going on in the front: http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/7296-1/IMG_5514.jpg http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/7290-1/IMG_5517.jpg http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/7890-2/IMG_5596.JPG http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/7886-2/IMG_5595.JPG The fur was full of weird stuff that had collected in it: http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/7870-2/IMG_5591.JPG http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/7926-2/IMG_5576.JPG (oh look foam!) And loose threads all over on the inside, this is the hole the tail was supposed to go through: http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/7878-2/IMG_5588.JPG With the belt as tight as possible, this is how the tail help up: http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/7288-1/IMG_5520.jpg http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/7286-1/IMG_5519.jpg http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/7282-1/IMG_5521.jpg Oh yeah.. and for some reason you could see my divesuit through the fur? It must've had thin backing or something I remember it being scratchy, I don't know where it was from though. The glow in the dark paint glowed, not blue, nor white, and it was splattered on unevenly and looked gross glowing, I have a video of this but I am unsure of where to upload it.. (I don't want it on youtube.) Okay so second, not looking right. Why didn't I do something about this before? Well It looked "okay" in the pictures on her. I was "eh" about the eyebrows and some facial shape things but it's white and white never photographs well so I figured I wanted to see it with my own eyes before forming a solid opinion on asking for anymore changes (also, I had already had her replace the eyes 2 times when she showed me the pictures of it all together and it took her and extra 2 or 3 months to change the eyes.) So here are those things, first off the feet: http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/7308-1/IMG_5510.jpg http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/7304-1/IMG_5512.jpg http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/7302-1/IMG_5511.jpg http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/7298-1/IMG_5513.jpg http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/7270-1/IMG_5531.jpg http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/7958-2/IMG_5571.JPG http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/7966-2/IMG_5569.JPG http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/7994-2/IMG_5568.JPG http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/8006-2/IMG_5554.JPG http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/8014-2/IMG_5553.JPG (mysterious shoe) http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/8010-2/IMG_5555.JPG (strange holes in the bottom?) http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/8018-2/IMG_5551.JPG (scale, next to a DS Lite, they were huge, I couldn't barely fit through the door wearing them actually.) A lot of the claws had fallen off in the mail, they were painted blue and left unfinished so there was fur, foam and dirt/dust stuck all over them, they were also shaped very elephant like, and not dog like at all. There claws that were left attached were loose and the ones that weren't, I found loose in the box but there was one I never found.. which means it fell off before the suit was sent? I know my concept art has chunky legs but she still has a foot in it and this is definitely not how I imagined, I was thinking more like this suit made by Luskwood (quality I was promised and paid for once again): http://luskwood.org/costume/gallery/canines/nataliecevichelimahusky/1 http://luskwood.org/costume/gallery/canines/keovi/2 http://luskwood.org/gallery/costumes/canines/keovi/keovi3.jpg I already mentioned the claws issues so here are some more pictures of that and the hand paws: http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/7950-2/IMG_5573.JPG http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/7962-2/IMG_5572.JPG http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/7970-2/IMG_5570.JPG http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/8038-2/IMG_5556.JPG The Nose: http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/7284-1/IMG_5523.jpg http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/7274-1/IMG_5525.jpg http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/7998-2/IMG_5565.JPG (loose hot glue on the felt) http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/7978-2/IMG_5564.JPG It was very flat and had an outline around it which is something I personally just don't really like the look of on most suits. Does not look like the art. The Eyes: http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/7278-1/IMG_5526.jpg http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/7990-2/IMG_5567.JPG http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/8002-2/IMG_5566.JPG http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/8030-2/IMG_5560.JPG Slapped on, falling off at parts, covered in scratches and at this point I had thought they were just glow in the dark (not EL wire anymore like originally promised because the first couple attempts at this had come out looking very wrong), but they weren't even glow in the dark and I could actually look through them because of how the head fit on my head. I had to look through the mouth. The Mouth being un-even and the lack of teeth: http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/7974-2/IMG_5563.JPG http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/7986-2/IMG_5562.JPG http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/7982-2/IMG_5561.JPG http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/8026-2/IMG_5559.JPG http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/7276-1/IMG_5524.jpg http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/7268-1/IMG_5527.jpg The Tail back: http://www.synchrastudios.com/gallery/d/8042-2/IMG_5557.JPG This was just messy, and strange for what it was supposed to be. I feel like I am leaving things out. I don't know, anyone who was at my house when this thing was received knows this was just NOT a top quality suit, it was somehow worse in person. (A lot of friends were over when this came in the mail, my excitement quickly died when I opened the box.) Describe your Experience. Pros, Cons, Comments: Well I pretty much described it all already. This was an extremely negative experience for me. I have waited almost an entire year for this thing to be resolved and she has made no attempt to refund me the remaining money, next month it'd be a year, and I am tired of waiting in silence. By law, because I have absolutely NO PRODUCT, and I DID NOT cancel on her while she was in process, she owes me ALL of my money. On top of this, I have not seen her resell the suit.. so I assume it's still at her house or.. possibly in the trash? I don't know. I have put off posting anything "publicly" about this because I didn't want to start a bunch of e-drama and because I was hoping keeping it out of the light would help to keep a nice neutral relationship between me and Sophie so that we could solve things in a calm and fair fashion but now that she isn't responding to me at all, it's public. Final Grade (out of 5): 0 EDIT: Figured out how to upload videos to youtube so that they can only be seen when linked or something! So, I hope these work. These were filmed last year in February right after getting the suit. This is the "glow". Impossible to photograph, hard to video tape, but this is as good as it gets to convey the issues with it. Show media This one speaks for itself. ----REVIEW END---- An update on what has happened since then: I have received no response whatsoever from her and am in the process of settling this legally now. She has failed to respond to me in any way through all the conventional methods I have tried. Yesterday I noticed she had been active on Furaffinity so I attempted to contact her through the website (which I had never tried before) and received the response that I had been blocked. The fact that she has blocked me on a website where I have never once been rude to her or attempted to contact her before on leads me to believe that she is refusing to cooperate with me instead of just neglecting to check her e-mail addresses. I had a "demand letter" written up which is being sent on Monday. (I waited until Monday because April 1st is well.. April 1st and I wanted this to be taken seriously.) I have been researching and talking to people for the last month or two about small claims suits and finding out everything I need to do. I have asked her to explain her side of the story with no response. If there is something I missed, or am doing wrong, I want to hear it because I will admit my faults if there is some valid reason or something I missed. With nothing work off of on her end, I can only go with what I know and have on my own end. I saved every e-mail and record of transaction with her and have all the evidence I need for court however. Once again, I was never given ToS so I cannot share that with you either, I can just go on what I know.
