  1. https://artists-beware.livejournal.com/949564.html WHO: purqleguy WHERE: http://www.furaffinity.net/user/purqleguy WHAT: Fursuit head, one time payment. WHEN: April of 2016 was when I bought the head, the deadline was supposed to be July 2016. At the time of writing this (3/24/17) it has been almost a full year past the deadline, and he will not respond to my emails asking about the tracking number of the package he told me he shipped (he said he shipped it a month ago.) PROOF: Emails: http://imgur.com/a/txDnh Paypal transaction: http://imgur.com/x5G4jo5 I don't remember why I sent it in two parts, but it was sent on the same day as you can see. EXPLAIN: Long story so I put it under the cut In early 2016 I had plans to go to Youmacon with a friend that year. So I was on the hunt for a fursuit head commission that I could wear to the con. A big problem I was running into was that at the time I was 17 and a lot of people didn't accept fursuit commissions from minors. I was turning 18 next month, and was hoping I could use that to hold a spot with someone. I found a commission ad for purqleguy on furaffinity, that he was selling cheap heads as an emergency money maker. I like helping people out, they were cheap and I liked his work, so I bought one. (Initial emails: http://imgur.com/onQQ1kU http://imgur.com/v2yLQUO (a big chunk of the convo has been cut out here, since it was mostly just talk of what material I wanted the horns to be made out of and isn't relevent to my case.) The initial agreement was I wanted it completed by early July. He told me that was doable, and he thought he could have it done even earlier than that. (Email: http://imgur.com/8Ca1JUy ) I got one update ten days after the payment (April 30th) showing me the completed face of the foam base. ( http://imgur.com/0LsBJAh ) After that the only updates I got were from me emailing him to ask. ( Email, note the date, continuing to talk about this in the next paragraph: http://imgur.com/vXC831l ) At the very begining of July, I sent him an email, hoping to confirm that he would have it finished by my deadline. He did not send me photos, but he told me he hadn't begun furring it. Keep in mind, I had not heard from him in a month, and seeing as he sent no photos and said he was sewing the fur pieces, I am to assume he had not made any progress on my head since I last contacted him. He promised to send photos the following day, he did not. His excuse was he went on a mountain trip, (for over a month?) and that's why he wasn't able to contact me. I didn't get on him about this but he should have told me he was going to be away and would not be able to update me. I told him as long as I got it by October then I would be fine with not meeting my July deadline. A few weeks later, I contacted him again, asking if he could send some images of the fur pieces he supposedly cut so I knew he wasn't lying. (Emails: http://imgur.com/jrmTg8d ) He did not reply until early the next month (August) with update pictures. Once again, he told me that a huge thing came up he couldn't work on my suit. He did not tell me that this was happening, this is the second time he had to pause on my suit because of life events without telling me. At this time I told him I was extending the deadline, as I had cancelled my Youmacon trip. (Email: http://imgur.com/8w63Gwg ) For a little bit after that, he did start updating me regularly, and then suddenly stopped without warning. Again. (Emails he sent me, I didn't screenshot the emails themself since it wasn't really much relevent to my case. Just some progress photos and comments on them. These are mostly to prove the dates and that he sent them. http://imgur.com/Z0k4iNL ) He stopped sending me emails until late December, I asked him for an update because the last he checked with me he told me he was almost done. (Email: http://imgur.com/nRJNrrI ) He told me he was going to put in the piercings and then he'd ship it off to me. I did not get any correspondance until February. I sent another email asking for an update, and his exact respond was "[your head] has been packed up for a while now!". He had my head packed up, I'm estimating for at least a month, and he did not ship it off to me. He told me he shipped it February 23rd. (This is the last email he has sent to me, so there won't be any more embedded in this post: http://imgur.com/fvTwOBD ) It has been a full month since he told me he shipped it (I am writing this on March 24th), and I have not recieved the head. He did not give me a tracking number, he did not give me an official confirmation he shipped it. On the 22nd he told me he was going to ship it out the following day, he did not confirm he shipped it but I was hoping he did. I don't know where to fit this into my story here, but it should also be mentioned some updates he didn't even send to me. I had to dig up his instagram account and looked at some photos he had posted to there (ones he didn't send me). I have sent 2 emails at this point asking for a tracking number, in the 2nd I said if he didn't give me a tracking number I was demanding a full refund. I was willing to give this maker a little bit of leeway since he told me he was a minor (didn't give me an exact age, I was guessing 16-17), but this is unacceptable. Do not buy from this artist until maybe he learns his lesson and gives some better customer service. Until then I'm hoping to get that refund I'm demanding and am going to a more high-profile maker with some good reviews. UPDATE; After having to hunt down this guy's tumblr to send him a message asking what was up I FINALLY recieved the head. And the condition is terrible. Here's a photo of the head, it looks fine from the outside but the construction is horrendous. http://imgur.com/Y1NGstB From the outside, notice; no piercings. My character has a nosering and two ear piercings. I even TOLD the maker how he could make the piercings, and he said he couldn't find green paint and I said he could cover it in fleece if he had to. I was very lenient with that because I know green spray paint exists online, but at this point I was tired of fighting with him so I was letting him do whatever he wanted. He didn't even do that, he just put no piercings in at all. From the construction; god where do I even start? I'm guessing he used matrice's head making method, but he did not ventilate the head AT ALL. The mouth is open and that's about it. The foam piece between the head base and the muzzle wasn't cut out, as from my understanding is standard for foam heads, and I had to cut it out myself. He was expecting me to get all my ventilation from the eyes and slightly open mouth, in an all black foam head. The horns don't look anything like I wanted them too, I gave him a link to an etsy store (I believe it was DVC) who had resin ram horns that looked how I wanted but he said he didn't want to use them. There isn't even ridge lines (I'm not sure what the lines on ram horns are called, sorry) on the horns. It's super easy to embrodier something like that on, he didn't even bother. The pink hair piece is tiny, and isn't even pinned down in anyway. If I move too much it flips up. My character I asked some artistic liberties to be taken since my actual fursona has his hair covering his eyes, but I need to see so I asked to make it a little smaller.but not THAT small! The jaw looked like it was about to rip off when I got it, and I had to put some more hot glue in it as I was paranoid it would fall off. And the neck mane has foam under it to make it stand up, which isn't that bad in itself, except he didn't cover the bottom with fabric or more fur, the foam is on display whenever I move my head. I will admit the eyes could've been a little bit tricky to work with, since I asked for slit pupil goat eyes, but the vision isn't very good. The pupils aren't even placed where they would be over my actual eyes, and they're pretty thin. I waited almost a year for a horribly made head. I am not happy. I basically wasted 300$, since I don't want to talk to this guy anymore to get a refund. I'm going to a more reputable maker to get a new head since I'm in the market for a bodysuit anyway.

When: September 2012 Proof: Screenshots will be Provided below Details: 1. While at Saboten2012 I was selling a few things at a mini flea market the con had going on Saturday night. Among the things I was selling was a fursuit tail. Ravinghachi approached me asking if I would trade art the tail. An agreement was reached, and she left with the tail. 2. I sent her the details for the badges when I got home. The original note can be seen here (this is the 'lots of details' image) which has links and a detailed description outlining what I specifically wanted for the badges. 3. On November 2nd I received this reply that progress was excellent and she could drop them off if we set up a place to meet. During the holiday season it's really difficult for me have to for meeting people, so I asked for a scan. She said her scanner was broken, but had been uploading a lot of photos during that time. I asked if it was possible for her to send a photo of the badges. 4. On November 26th she sent me a note saying she was going to post my badge that night, but days went by and the scan wasn't posted. 5. On November 30th she responded the same day with a link to the badge (screenshot here). This is the badge that was posted. It's cute and all, but not really what I had asked for. In my reply I tried to politely express my concern for the lack of second badge and my description not being followed. She told me the second badge was still being worked on. I tried to figure out what to do about the first badge being incorrect and communication ceased. 6. I then saw her wearing the tail at TaiyouCon (Jan 4-6) while working at my dealer's table. Unfortunately I was unable to talk to her in person. 7. On Jan 8th I sent her a note which was read within 24 hrs, but has not been answered. That note can be seen here. 8. I left another comment on her page of Feb 23rd (screenshot here from my nexus). When I checked back tonight she had deleted it, with no answer to me at all (screenshot here). She responded by saying she didn't see/delete the comments. (I seem to have misplaced that screenshot.) I asked again for the money she owes me, she told me she had to use her mother's paypal because she didn't have one. 9. I waited again with no contact, so I left another comment on her front page. Her responses are here. She says her Paypal money was stolen, and that's why she can't pay me. 10. I noted her as mentioned, this is the final note I sent, which was read, before making this post. Here's the entire album of screenshots, since there are too many to post above. (Mod note: No other relevant to beware images were in this LiveJournal image folder at the time of archiving this post.) EDIT: 4/22/13 My account has been blocked. [screenshot] I'm obviously not getting my money or anything else from this artist. TL:DR RavingHachi and I agreed to a trade at Saboten2012: my $60 tail for two conbadges by her. After being given specific instructions, she did one of the badges which did not follow the guidelines set. After I mentioned to her that it wasn't right, she flipped out on me and stopped answer my messages. After trying to contact her again she blocked me and deleted my comments, then proceeded to tell people 'it was settled and she had paid me'. This isn't true: she still has the tail, and I didn't receive either of the conbadges. EDIT: 3/20/2014 I have not been compensated for the tail as of this writing, contrary to what this she is currently telling people.
  3. So this starts on June 17th, 2020 when I commissioned them for a $20 YCH. I'm also in the market for a new reference sheet at the time, so we briefly discuss that as well. (Please note that the original YCH posting I won appears to have been taken down, however with how many YCHes the artists generally posts it's a non-zero chance that I'm just unable to find it). I completely forget about it and don't hear anything until March 8th, 2021, when I get this note. I assume there will be updates there so I join. Turns out she calls the server "BrokenVocaloid's Good Boys" and everyone who's commissioned her gets the role "good boy". I mention I'd like her to create another role maybe called "Good girl" due to myself being transgender and being called a "good boy" causing dysphoria. She doesn't discuss anything with anyone, over reacts, and completely revamps the server. (I did not take screenshots of this, and have since been removed from the server). I feel horrible about doing this to her out of nowhere, so I ask to support her at her "Golden Children" tier, which is supposed to come with benefits like free art, etc, etc. As mentioned earlier, when I got the YCH I told her I might be interested in a ref. Again, I felt bad I caused her to completely redo her server, so I moved forward and asked for a ref of Ruby. I don't hear anything that week. So on the 16th, I ask for an update on the WIP. I only asked for the update because she said she'd send the WIP within the week, normally I give artists like a month before I poke them for an update unless they give me an expectation. She ignores me. I ask again on the 19th. She ignores me. On the 24th I message her again. She points to the fact her grandmother was testing for cancer as the reason I don't have the WIP (this was posted on her journal on furaffinity here https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/9797437/, and is public knowledge). I'd also asked about the YCH which at the time was 9 months overdue before her grandmother went into testing. She dodged that question. I backed down since I figured she was grieving. Ends with "I'll do it now", setting another expectation. On 4/3, I realize I might never get the ref, so I hedge my bets. I like getting all my refs from the same person, so I ask her if she can switch to my Umbreon character instead as I care much less about that reference sheet. She says she's already started working on Ruby. On 4/13, She randomly solicits me for another commission since she functionally needs something for her portfolio. I still feel bad from the original interaction in her server, so I accept. Note that she said "I will have ALOT of wips for ya tomorrow" On 4/17 I message again. She says she can send the WIPs that evening. She then sends me a discord invite to her streaming server, so I figure she's gonna stream herself working on my commission. She spends the entire evening streaming other people's commissions, and I feel extremely disappointed. So I message her again on 4/18, I'm ignored. 4/19 I write up a small wall of explanation of why I'm upset doing my best to be reasonable and professional. I get another story as to why she doesn't have them done, I'm willing to accept it at face value because things happen, and it's a somewhat reasonable story. By 5/7 I'm sick of asking for updates. I at this point noticed her artist bewares and saw someone reference her having a trello in one of them, so I ask her for it. Ignored. 5 days on 5/12 later I message her again, she doesn't even answer the question I asked at first. On 5/19 I reach a point of frustration where I tell her I don't want the art anymore and tell her to just not bother. She's been posting a lot of YCHes and saying she needs money for food, so I'm willing to let her keep the money as I'd feel bad taking that money away from her. This is the image I sent her in the previous screenshot. She says she's not going to keep the money without doing the work, so I relent. She says it'll be out within the week again. On 5/27 I ask for a refund because frankly she basically begged to be allowed to finish the commissions and then ignored her own deadline without even bothering to communicate once again. I clearly state that I'd like it back within 2 weeks or I will be filing a chargeback as I've seen other people here have issues getting refunds. I still forgive the $25 from the "Golden Child" tier because there was no direct tangible agreement there, and I feel like asking for that refund would be unreasonable. Her comment "I have a life and stuff happeend personally i had to take care of ^^; I know people dont care about that so I dont push it on them" felt like a personal attack implying I don't care about her at all, which feels completely unwarranted. Discussion about the refund. I suspect she sketched out that "WIP" in the hour and a half between my message and her message just based on how resistant to showing me she was right up until that point, the fact her explanation makes no sense, as well as the fact that the change in the way she types (using the ~ at the end of the sentence for example) comes off as smug in some way. Today (6/13) I still haven't received the refund. She's stated I'll have it tomorrow, so I'm giving her a single final chance to follow through, otherwise I'll be filing the chargeback. I strongly recommend you do not work with this person under any circumstances. The entire interaction felt disrespectful, disingenuous, and like a long string of excuses for the fact she takes on more work than she can handle with no intention of ever completing it, and I'd estimate that your odds of getting your commissions are a coin flip at best. I will be genuinely impressed if I get the refund I've been promised at this point.
  4. Hello all. This is a bit of a tale so apologies if I end up typing way too much. I will try to explain every detail that is pertinent and submit as much proof as I can along with it. Additionally, this commission was for a NSFW story. However, I have made sure not to include any details of said desired story in this post. I could have screencapped even more of our conversations but I am only including the pertinent ones for this report. To start with, I posted a SoFurry post in the Market looking for someone to create a story. Ayrrenth replied to this posting via message on SoFurry on August 3rd, 2017. After some discussion on the story details, we agreed on a price of $60 for a 7000 word story. The price was agreed upon on August 4th going into August 5th, 2017. I submitted my payment on PayPal according to my records on August 4th, 2017. (All private data has been blurred. If unedited screenshots are needed for proof, I can provide them.) What then followed was messages of me checking up once in a while and the author telling me that they were working on it. And then Irma happened. They said they had to evacuate and that their house was destroyed along with their computer. Of course, I empathized. I was patient and awaited a message from them once things were better. They said things were semi-normal and they were trying to complete commissions. They said they would have my story done by Friday. And then they just disappeared. No further communication. And then 9 months ago, I had finally kind of got to a place to stand up for myself. But that's a more personal thing I won't really get into here. I decided to reach out to this author on SoFurry and try to find out what happened to my story. I figured I wouldn't get a response so I ended up looking elsewhere for this person. There was someone on FurAffinity with a dragon that looked like them. So I reached out on September 9th, 2019 and, surprisingly, finally got an answer on August 24th, 2019. They offered a refund or to write the story. I stupidly continued on with wanting them to write the story. On September 11th, 2019, they said they had some of the intro done. This would be the last I heard from them. On September 26th, 2019, I reached out to check on the story and they left the message on read. I believe at that point, I decided to just give up and not bother reporting them and figured I'd take the loss. But recently, I kind of started to find my own voice and confidence. So here I am. Over 2 years later. Reporting someone I should have reported a long time ago. Tired of being walked all over and just letting people rip me off. Out of curiosity, I looked at their journals and found one that mentioned "previous bad customers". I am not sure if this author is referring to me or others, but I felt like I was pretty nice in my messages. Not to mention patient. Just wanted to throw that tidbit of irony out there. Anyway, I've reached out to this author on FurAffinity and SoFurry today to try to get a refund or my story. Based off my last message, I have a feeling it will be left on read and ignored. So here I am. Hope this helps someone else. Especially anyone that is trying to get a joint commission with them or any artist that they are currently trying to commission. Stay safe out there. (If any further screenshots are needed, I can provide them. Or if any of the screenshots need further censoring, that can be done as well.)
  5. Paid in full for 2 Hellboy commissions March 2012, with high level specs confirmed but no completion timeline. Received jpeg of one prelim May 2013. Subsequent attempts to obtain status across multiple platforms have been ignored. I have no hope that i will ever receive the commissions or a refund. Larry doesn't seem to be active in the commission market but in case he ever cones back, here is my experience.
  6. Artists are businesses not charity cases. If you can't get an item that at most should be 2 hours of work done in 7 months, then this may not be the field for you. When a client asks for a refund and no work has been shown to them, nor the trello is updated, then all work must stop and a refund should be issued. It's the artist's job to maintain the administrative side of their business or outsource it. Punishing the client for not keeping a trello up to date is unprofessional. This stops being a hobby when you take someone's money whether it be $5, $10, or $1000. Edit: I also want to point out the artist's prices are drastically low along with the discount for a second one. When you're suffering from a queue a mile long and are also trying to survive off of your art it's imperative to raise your prices the highest your market can bear. Not only for the sake of your hands, but also for the sake of your clients. If you can make the same amount taking half of what you normally do, then there's time to chip away at the backlog. I get it. Not everyone has the luxury to not spend what they haven't earned. I've been doing commission work for over ten years, and have been there before. However excusing this artist's current behavior doesn't do them any good, and it belittles those of us who strive to offer a good commission experience to our customers.
  7. Hi. This is a story of two buyers who didn't pay us for our work. A little explanation before I start: I work together with FyreDraygg. I take care of public relations and make some types of commission; he doesn't talk to our buyers, but is always informed by me about everything he has to know. This is stated on our Terms of Service, automatically accepted when someone decides to commission us. That being said, let's start. Terri contacted us on 6 December 2018 asking for a Night in The Woods graphic (a type of commission FyreDraygg does) featuring four characters. (If you're unfamiliar with the platform it's Plus Messenger. It's Telegram with a different interface) (I know the correct total was 26€ (6,5 x 4 = 26€) when I wrote 24€, , I made a mistake, but I let that slide even after I noticed.) Then they proceeded sending us the character references. I gave them an indicative date as, per policy, we can't ensure any completion date. I also explained them FyreDraygg will work on their piece (even if they should have known reading our ToS or, simply, my FurAffinity page). We chatted a little bit, nothing relevant for this. They contacted me on 12 December 2018, 2 January 2019, 28-29 January 2019 and 7 April 2019 asking about the WIP. As I told them before, I have a proper channel where I send any update on any commission I'm working on, to let people know what I'm working on, but I still accept people asking me privately. Finally, on 22 May 2019 I send them the final picture; I know, we took so long, but again we give no guarantees about completion dates and this is clearly stated in our ToS. Then, problems arose. Again, as per our policy: "A situation where we finish our job and the client delays payment due to not having the required funds available is not at all acceptable and lands said client directly in the blacklist, along with us reporting such incidents to all market platforms." ...but I tried to be understanding: we took a lot of time and I've decided to be more patient in turn. I was still annoyed because it was just about 6€ per person, not a really large amount, but I kept this for myself. I just wanted to be payed, nothing else, I didn't care about judging other people's finances. Then I contacted them on 27 May 2019, 10 June 2019 and lastly 21 June 2019. It was becoming a large problem because I had to file my tax declaration and I needed this payment to be done asap. I also explained this problem to them. Then, they forwarded a message from another person (a friend who was taking part to this commission), apologizing and promising we will receive payment very soon (I'm censoring personal emails & Paypal addresses). Then, suddenly they asked to change the price because "2 of the characters weren't used at all". We had been graceful enough to decline charging them extra delay fees when offered, the commission was already dirt-cheap discounted to begin with and while we took a long time to deliver, this gave them plenty of time to notice they weren't using a character and telling us about it. Furthermore, after receiving the WIP, they had yet another chance to ask for changes, which they didn't and now, when pressed for payment, they magically discover issues with the work. They also complained about us not sending them any WIPs, which we clearly provided as a release candidate due to the nature of the work. Thus, since work on 4 characters had already been done, that work would have to be paid. We couldn't send any invoice via Paypal any earlier because we didn't have any email to send it to; the buyer seemed extremely reluctant to provide any such information and had to be solicited multiple times before complying. The invoice expiration date was set for 15 days after issuing (my email is a public business email, I don't feel the need to censor it) and Maxx promised to pay after Friday (it was June 21, then payment should have been sent after June 28). As you can see from the screenshot I took today it's still "on hold", while the second one (from another person) is paid. Just a comparison if you're not familiar with Italian. The invoice will technically expire tomorrow, but since we are way past any set deadlines, we figured we weren't going to receive any payment and decided to cancel this order, ban these buyers from our service and initiatives and report them to the proper platforms as stated in our ToS. I perfectly understand things can be hard in life, we took a lot of time to complete this piece, but on the other hand if a person commissions some work from someone else, they should keep the proper funds available by setting money aside from the start, not pay at their leisure and blaming it on the worker for completing their work at an inconvenient time. I also offered them to pay after a WIP because I know it could took more time than expected. And again, we're talking about 6€ per person; I don't think someone who struggles to set aside the price of a 12-pack of Pepsi should preoccupy themselves with ordering art, but that's just my personal opinion. These users contacted me on Telegram and, apart from personal emails, I don't have any other contact. I give you name, nickname and id because it's all I have directly; after some sleuthing I found Terri on FurAffinity. Terri J. 8. This has been my first bad experience in the world of commissions and I hope this will be the last beware I will have to share here. Everything began on 17th April 2018; I had started taking commissions some months before, so I was reeeeally naive about it and my English skills were terrible as well, so I apologize for the horrible grammar in my messages. At that time I didn't have any Terms of Service yet, but I had already started working with FyreDraygg (we are two artists working together. I keep public relations) I was in a Telegram Network made up of several channels where artists can show their price sheets and find clients; buyers can send requests in order to find the right artist for their needs. I saw this user requesting a couple of dragon designs (that's my field of specialty), so I contacted them. We started chatting and they seemed quite interested, so I asked them all the information I required to give them an initial quote to see if it was fine for them. They accepted and explicitly stated they were fine with the price; they sent me a lot of references and details about how they wanted the two pictures. Important for later: they asked us to complete this work very quickly. I told them that payment must be fulfilled after seeing the sketch. Initially I made a sketch, but wasn't very convinced about how it turned out: when I work with the kind of buyers I call "yes-men", meaning people who accept everything you show them without ever having any critique or preference to share, I try to use my personal taste to improve the quality of the work to a level I find at least acceptable. Thus, after talking to FyreDraygg, we made a second design and showed it to them. They (unsurprisingly) liked it and everything was still fine. After that, I pointed out that payment was then due. It was a very big order for me at the time and my queue was full, so I decided to proceed with lineart and coloring even if payment hadn't been received yet. (That was my fault, I know, and I've learned to avoid doing this, but this is besides the point of my beware) Then we asked for an email address to send the invoice to, they provided it and sent the invoice. After some days we kindly pushed them for payment, especially since they had asked us to be quick at the beginning and we wanted to complete this order asap. As I explained in a previous post, I believe that when a commission is placed, the buyer is responsible for setting the required funds aside so as to be always ready for payment, especially after confirming they can afford it. I was very annoyed, but kept this to myself. Eventually, no payment was received and we had to canceled the commission. I wasn't as professional as I'm trying to be now and I didn't have a lot of patience, I know, but this was already the umpteenth person who thought it's ok to be paying late for a commission they themselves rushed, because apparently it's fine to push the artist for work but heaven forbid having to pay on time. After all of this went down, this person sent another request on the market channel I first found them in, asking for another kind of work. Thus, I sent these screenshots to the admins of the channel and the user vanished from Telegram, deleting their account; so I don't have any information besides the old username and the Telegram id (I use Plus Messenger and ids are public) Username: @What_even_0 id: 429774297
  9. Thess are examples of anti-consumer practices. Especially the "A-hole clause" and "Kill Fee" I wish more people took notice of ToS's closely. Literate furs make for a better free market within our community. I do feel sorry for UrbanCoyote, but I'm glad they had the confidence, patience, citations, and professional tone to post this on Artists-Beware.
