  1. We have updated our submission guidelines to clarify the max cut off for a Caution. It is now one (1) year.  Any Caution that has been resolved more than one (1) year ago will be rejected.

We have also added a minimum age for minors. We will not accept posts concerning minors under the age of 16. We won't be putting kids on the spot.  If there is a post on someone who was under 16 at the time, please notify us and we will scrub it. Our mods will do our best to look for them ourselves, but we see literally hundreds of posts.

But what if I find out later that they were under 16?

The purpose of this addition is to avoid putting kids on the spot all together.  So, we will have to decline the post or delete it.  It's best to contact the payment processor in the meantime.

If you have any questions you may ask them here.

  2. I commissioned Xsidion for a custom theme commission of my character, James.  Xsidion asked me about my character, what genre I liked, and together we got a song put down.  He gave me regular updates and progress, and overall I'm very happy with the final outcome.

On the same day, my friend and I did a joint commission for his Twitch channel.  This song was also delivered at the same time my character theme was done.

    Original commission date:  July 16th

    Delivery date:  July 17th

  3. Commissioned Armaina twice now!

    Website:  armaina.com

First one was June 11, 2021.  Delivery was June 18, 2021.

Second was July 16, 2021.  Delivery was July 17, 2021.

Armaina is fast, very professional and prompt.  I am extremely happy with the outcomes of both commissions!  😄

I commissioned Advenceart for a colored piece of my OC, James.  The transaction was started June 6th, and concluded today, June 11.  During the whole transaction Advenceart was professional, and followed up when they said they would.  The end result is an absolutely stunning addition to my collection.  I highly recommend this artist.

I commissioned PanchyAndMaggi on June 09, 2021 for a full body color of my OC, James.  PanchyAndMaggi was lightning fast, and got the work done in 24 hours.  The quality is top notch, and every important part of my character was rendered first time without needing any corrections.  I highly recommend this artist.

  6. Howdy!

This is covered in item 1 of the Submission Guidelines. We do not accept proxy posts.

For anyone reading this topic please take the time to review the guidelines. We put them together to save us and you time.  There are no exemptions to them, and we mention numerous times on our submission form that posts that do not comply with them will be rejected.

  7. Howdy.

I'm making this write up to be as transparent as possible about an incident that occurred today.  Any member of staff is not exempt from receiving a beware on themselves, and the operating procedures for it is that other mods are supposed to handle the submission.  I received a beware concerning me, and removed it myself.  I also gave them a warning, because I believed them to be bringing what was happening in my email to the site.  The warning has been deleted by me, so I can't recall it for proof.  To put it simply, I thought this person was trolling me and reacted poorly.  I apologize to our readers and members as we ask you to put a lot of trust in us.  The person in question has been censored.

Here is the post submitted to us:

Here is the warning that was given and removed.  Unfortunately the admin panel doesn't have specific times when an action is recent as far as I'm aware.

Lastly a screenshot from Mailbird.  There were a lot of emails, which is why I wasn't sure if this user was attempting to troll me or not.

I assure the community at large that this will not happen again from me.  I'm sorry.

  8. Unfortunately there's not much you can do. As per Boozy Barrister / Boozy Badger, the artist that originally made the design can pull it at any time if there is no transfer paperwork. I think your only course of action is to work with someone else to make a new design.

Though I am curious, does the artist know you're the rightful owner via trade now? I'm wondering if they think you're a rando who is asking about a character that they believe belongs to someone else.

And as a mod note, for everyone's safety: since this is a legal question please cite sources from professionals. Posts that are just your personal opinion will be hidden as we don't want to be responsible for shaky legal advice.

  9. Since you already got a refund, then it is automatically downgraded to a Caution. Whether or not we will take it depends on the queue mods once they have full context. In which case I suggest to simply send it in if you'd like us to take a look at it. Be sure to include a shot of the estimated delivery time on the listing as well as all correspondence with the artist and etsy.

  10. Howdy!  Last year we added the option to utilize adspace on Artists Beware.  Unfortunately, the original iteration of this system was clunky and required individuals to manually email us.  On top of that, users couldn't access their own statistics and they had to be sent out manually by me.  I am embarrassed to say that I have dropped the ball in being punctual, and sometimes have forgotten to send out emails all together.

For the new year, I've decided to overhaul how our ad system works.  Now Advertisers will gain access to their Client Portal, which will list their active campaigns' stats.  You will need an account with us in order to purchase ad space, but this is only so you may access your stats.  The system is entirely automated.  All I have to do is make sure your ad doesn't violate our ad guidelines prior to approving it.

Also, individuals who have an active campaign via our new system will have a different user title while their campaign is active.  This user title will grant you a small discount when purchasing campaigns.  These campaigns can be for yourself or for a friend.

For those who have supported us in the past we thank you.  For those who are considering ad space, we thank you as well.  🙂

  11. Lots of places operate under the honor system.  It's why you'll find porn sites don't ask you to send ID to them to ensure you're 18.  All you have to do is pinky promise that you are.  In the vast majority of places this absolves you of any legal ramifications of sending porn to a minor.

As for collecting IDs, you'll find that anyone who tries will likely not see any business.  I'm well above 18, but wouldn't touch anyone who wants my ID with a 10 ft pole.  Plus anyone who collects this kind of information is responsible for how they store and use this information.  If they have international customers, then they will have to abide by international laws.  It's something we've had to brush upon while operating this site.

Not sure if its a bug, but if I fail a password it locks my account first try.

Your logs show that you've reset your password multiple times since joining.  Has this always been an issue?  The logs say there were 3 failed attempts, but we also recently updated IPS.  If it only started happening recently then we'll have to report it to IPS.

Most of the staff are seasoned artists with rather intimate knowledge of PayPal's idiosyncrasies. You don't need to inform us of what we already know.

That being said, other artists are not aware of this and are not aware of what the rules even mean so in many cases when a fee is added it's not out of maliciousness. No two interactions are the same, nuance and context is needed for these things, that's why we have 'Yes, but' because this genuinely does matter.

I think it both weakens AB as a service and would do more harm than good for artists and clients alike, if someone were to report someone adding a paypal fee but the artist in question had a very spotless record for turn around, communication and work completion. At that point it's something that could be resolved without our intervention by merely informing the artist that PayPal has a rule for not adding fees that are PayPal only. To assume all artists that add a fee are malicious simply by the fee being there, and to make every single instance caution-able, I think disrupts the integrity of Artist Beware.

I agree.  The old version of AB garnered itself a reputation for being "dramatic".  Over the years we've worked hard to turn that around by trying to have guidelines.  I think a blanket "yes, always" turns the site into a direction of making people feel like they're being witch hunted.

This is hard, what do they mean by hidden fees.  Are they adding it to the full total after the fact, or is it already included in the total cost before invoicing?

We're specifically counting a scenario like this:

"Hey my comm price is $40" and then the client receives an invoice for more than $40.  It doesn't have to list the fee specifically.
