  • Beware: Tahomacougar/Deermoonstudios (fursuit)

    Ninjaproton
    • Who: Tahomacougar, Deermoonstudios
      Where: https://www.etsy.com/shop/Deermoonstudios

      https://mobile.twitter.com/tahomacougar
      When: 05/11/2021
      What: Fursuit/ Fursuit Parts

I contacted Deermoonstudios on Etsy for a fursuit head for $750 (which totalled $804 with taxes). This was paid in full immediately, followed by them stating they had just ordered fur colors needed for the suit after my approval. All on the same day. I waited a little over a month before asking them about progress, to which they said the fur had just arrived and they were waiting on more pieces to arrive in the mail. In Sep I asked for another update, no response, I asked again on the 20th and got told a day later that the head was ready for taping and sorry for the delay. On Nov 2nd 2021 I asked again for a picture, since I never got one. No response, I sent another message on the 14th asking if they saw the previous message, no response. In Dec, I got a little upset and messages them again asking for a picture, still no response. After this I looked for their Twitter, to see if they were busy with life or something. I learned they were pretty active on Twitter and I created an account to message them. Still no response, but they did post a tweet about how they have a hard time responding to messages and complaining that people need to stop guilt tripping them. I'm unsure if this was directed at me, but I took note of it and messaged them on etsy one last time to apologize if I had ever made them uncomfortable, and that I would no longer message them. I've given up and am assuming I'll never get the product I paid for. They had finished one (provable here) fursuit head in the meantime, fairly quickly. As of right now (Jan 6 2022), I still have gotten no response from them. They do not accept refunds on their products. They were polite in messages but have seemingly ghosted me.

If the maker is incapable of standard communication, they either need a manager who can be their communicator for them, or not take commissions. Communication is a standard. It's not optional. The tweet guilting you for asking for basic updates? Not acceptable. Ghosting when they've taken your money and not delivered the product? Not acceptable.

I don't know much about Etsy's policy, but I would try to get in touch with their customer service about an undelivered product.

UPDATE (I'm not sure about how adding updates work so mods can correct me)

On May 24th 2022, I finally got the head I bought. The maker still never contacted me and as a result, the fursuit head has a number of mistakes that could have easily been avoided if they had simply communicated and sent progress updates to me. I didn't even realize the head was out for shipping until Etsy notified me it was at my doorstep. There was nothing I could do after they stopped talking to me, as Etsy only handles issues within the first three months of buying something, regardless of if it had been delivered or not. So they get to avoid any sort of punishment on Etsy, outside of me leaving a bad review. They had sold the Legosi head and had put up another head for sale in the meantime, so it really does seem as if they decided to screw with me in particular.

You got the update done right! Though we do ask that you please include pictures of the errors if you're claiming they exist.

Yes. This is the character the suit should resemble, biggest issues are the ears being too large and the nose marking being orange and black instead of orange with darker orange stripes. I realize in the conversations that I said the colors they showed were good, I didn't realize they were going to use the tiger print over this area. The character is also more lynx like than cat like, I assume this is because one of the references images I sent was of a lynx (for their cheeks), they asked and I spesified the character is a domestic cat, they may have forgot. Both miscommunications that could have been cleared.
