When Mothux posted in May of 2020 that they were opening for a few pin-up slots; I had a steady, disposable income; and their art style looked slick-1697585110_proofofconcept(drawnfromcommissiongoogleForm).png.a662e27ae28524f916f9c950f099c53e.png

-I jumped right in and ordered a pinup from them.

After this I paid the invoice they sent me and began to wait.

I added them on discord 9 days later, and we both said hello. I played in some small talk to get conversation going because they hadn't responded to my question about additional info in almost a week, and I got a response then.

    After that, it was crickets.

By this point I had become exasperated with a lack of communication and any WIP of any sort.

I just wanted to close this chapter and move on because I thought they had disappeared from the face of the earth and had given no explanation whatsoever. Twenty days after my last note they posted an update on their FA.

They also started streaming their art regularly since this update, so they were still kicking and clearly doing work.1068556693_proofofactivity3.thumb.png.094e5cc64df1104b66745a573ab02bcf.png

The important bit to me was that they had a friend helping them respond to emails and provided an email to reach out to in order to remind them that they have open commissions. I decided to exercise the email they gave and sent them one. By this point I was almost beyond hoping that I was going to see any response, and I thought maybe a sterner approach would garner a response. Unfortunately this was not the case, and a week later I sent them a follow-up email asking for a refund due to a failure to deliver, with much more formality. I was also pretty tired of getting ghosted while they were actively streaming.

I have sent multiple notes on FA and Discord to get their attention with no real response. For a $245 commission, I expected a little more responsiveness. However, after checking their shouts at the behest of my friend — who are also having issues getting in contact — I lost hope that I would get my drawing. I have ordered a refund through Paypal due to not delivering goods as of August 15th. As unfortunate as it is, my money will have to find another pocket to call home.

Disappointing to hear about Mothux, as I got one commission and some bases without any problem.

I can see why their recent commission opening journals said along the lines of negative balance.

On and off for the past year or so they always mention a backlog of commissions, and they've posted a good chunk of high-end adoptables for sale. Many of them at the cost, if not higher than your commission slot here.

So it shouldn't be impossible to refund you if with how frequently these design sales popped up.

I was watching them for so long and it just looked like a repeating pattern of 'life happening' so they couldn't work, but continued to do one-offs or open more slots despite journal after journal speaking about people who've been on the backburner with commissions and getting their work refunded.
Latiro's mention of the journal prompted me to look at it and the language does come off real scummy and manipulative, imo.

I've interpreted it as blaming a fed-up commissioner for her own shortcomings and lack of communication as the artist to her clients. And like OP mentioned, there's so many shouts with people wanting to know whats up with their pending commissions or refunds, but Mothux is essentially blaming them for the closure of her storefronts for quick cash.

Framed in emojis and flowery words really doesn't mask the lack of accountability here. Their work is really lovely to look at, but if they don't turn themselves around, it's going to bury them further in the hole.

The refund part was actually a cake walk/waiting game. I went through Paypal's disputes center because the period of calling for a refund is a lot longer than I was led to believe, and after a period I was able to escalate the dispute to a claim. Due to a lack of response to the outreach from Paypal by Mothux, I kind of just had to wait for the days to come and go.

I had the same issue with Mothux. It took nearly 6 months to get my commission and I was about to issue a chargeback from paypal when they finally delivered it. No communication from them. Constant excuses. They seem to take on more and more work and then just never deliver unless absolutely forced with, when they do respond, emails that are full of emojis and flowers and sorry like that makes it ok. I would never recommend anyone get art from them..

Their "helper" also never got in contact with me when I tried to communicate with them.
