  • Beware: London/Vani/Vanimute/Vanilla Kitsune

    InklopBunny
    • Who: London/Vani
      Where: https://vani-illustrations.square.site/
      https://twitter.com/AshKetchumSays
      When: 05/29/2019
      What: Other (Explain Below)

      Resolved

On the 29th of May, I Bought 3 Acrylic charms from Vani's Square site. It does not utilise PayPal.

Then nothing happened for several months.

I DMed Vani on Twitter for a status update, 26th July; and my second attempt was answered: 4th September.

I haven't heard from them since. They have a public Trello that is used for Commission work, and a public Twitter: while they have not posted recently, they have Liked other users' posts.

It is now the 28th of October, and given the artist's record, I don't imagine I will receive anything.

Were these charms already produced? Or do they make them after the order? Because if it is the first, then there is no reason to not ship them right away.

No matter what though. Spending money before rendering a service is theft. It is not your money before the product isn't delivered. If it hadn't been spent, then there wouldn't have been a problem. Your financial hardship is not the commissioner's problem. Ever.

I've been aware of this potential issue for a while, and outside of deflections and excuses, London has made no known effort to address this. OP is far from the only person affected by this.

Square payments are processed through your Credit Card's end if I'm not mistaken?
You should be able to either go through the platform or contact your bank directly to force a refund.

Vani has one of the worst track records in the fandom, so signs point to ??? on if you'll either be refunded directly or get your items.

I'm so confused as to why they'd need to raise funds to ship your purchase? That's just bad business. You gave them money specifically to ship and they just spent it elsewhere. Weird weird weird!

Okay I so one thing I've noticed when it comes to vani is the constant excuse of using being behind on rent, needs funds for moving, or etc. If they can't afford to ship the product how are they planning to afford to attend MFF? They'll never learn I swear.

I don't understand why people continue to excuse them. I understand the concept of 'they're a good artist, give them a chance', but Vani has had multiple chances, and blown ALL of them. Over a decade of unprofessional and deceptive behaviour, yet we're supposed to believe they'll change their ways, when they said exactly this in the past and proved otherwise?

Yeah I agree with this. I don't know how they are allowed to attend MFF with such a backlog of owed refunds/commissions. I have a strong feeling they won't deliver to whoever that will purchase from them at this convention. There will be more people owed art/money. I'm going to send an email to MFF to cue them in on the situation. I don't want more people to be scammed and left in a lurch.

I can’t do a transaction dispute with my bank, because it’s been too long.

I’m pretty sure they were already produced, they were announced when Vani had left-over stock to sell, which I had bought one of (kougra).

They always seem to excuse their behaviour with an empty wallet, yet at the same time they have created new merch, adoptables, moved/new pet/etc. They’ve been in the business long enough to know how to prepare for production costs, let alone manage their own spending habits.

Money they earn from sales should be allocated for what the goods are, eg money for charms is for shipping. It is unprofessional to run out and spend after a sale, and then say ‘whoops, i can’t refund you, the money is gone’. I *really* hope this scenario is resolved for everyone involved.

Would just like to add to this.

Pre-ordered charms back in December to be shipped in the New Year. Waited patiently. No charms in January. None in February. In March I asked for a refund, they said ‘sure, send me your PayPal address and the amount owed and I’ll send it next week when I get funds.’ I did. No refund. Contacted Storenvy, who in turn contacted Vani. They didn’t respond so Storenvy shut their account down.

Vani stopped replying to emails/tweets and if they do reply, it’s the same old excuse. Just gotta get more funds for shipping. I wanted a refund, so why do you need shipping costs???

This. I always make sure to keep the money of commissions in my paypal/never spend it before the commissioner got his product. But unfortunately this is nothing new from them. But yes, here's hoping that op at least gets his money back somehow.

Did you contact Square directly about your issues with Vani?
    https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/5060-refund-overview
Right here it says you have a full year to be issued a refund for a purchase not made via mobile.
    You're not without your resources!

Wow. It sadly took this to get them to ship the order.

sorry. It's something I take from my native language, since the noun in there is masculine. Didn't mean to misgender
